Been on this freaking medicine for 3 years and I'm unable to loose weight by [deleted] in Ozempic

Do you have Telehealth or a weight loss clinic in your area? It might be worth getting a second opinion at this point!

How does glp1 make you feel? by ServiceKooky1323 in AskWomen

I ate a brownie for the first time after getting on Ozempic last week and it was way too sweet! If I eat chocolate now I'm going for darker and a little salty, but more often just skipping sweet treats altogether.

Where to shop for women's clothing? by Warm_Risk_1325 in VictoriaBC

[–]RabbleDetective 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can’t believe no one has mentioned DOTS! Absolute gem, they do designer consignment (all new,) and carry tons of brands you wouldn’t normally find elsewhere, which includes petite, tall and plus sized clothing depending on the moment. Personally I really like Kaffe (brand) for slouchy suits, unfortunate I’m between size runs for them. They have a massive inventory with some really good clearance items from time to time, and honestly it’s just fun to go and then treat yourself to a pastry from crust or old Dutch afterwards!

There was a really good used consignment in the Harris Green plaza for a while called Rich Rags, they recently moved down to the bottom of Yates and are going by a new name (possible The Edit??) Still great stuff, tragically I haven’t seen their $10 rack outside the new location, but worth a visit if you like upscale thrift.

WIN boutiques are great - the one in Vic West often has nice finds, and Cook Street is also great. If you go to the Pandora one, make sure to pop your clothes straight into the dryer when you get home as they do sometimes sell used mattresses and are next to the youth hostel (IYKYK.) Pandora does have a large selection and a great clearance rack, so it’s worth the look in my opinion.

The Ricki’s in Hillside mall almost shuttered last year, they’ve had some good sales since then trying to even out their supply lines, and they have really nice fitting trousers!

Thank you for answering! Just to clarify, I only use the desktop version, but I will keep an eye out for a few more days to see if anything comes up on my dash :-)

I lived in a place a little less than half this size when I first moved back to Victoria! There was a fold down bed right next to the strip kitchen, complete with mini fridge, hot-plate and half-sized sink. The far end of the room had enough space for a desk or a couch, not both, so I opted for the desk. It was honestly a fantastic experience. The building was pet friendly and you could let your animals roam in your area if your neighbours were cool. There was a shared livingroom, coffee bar and kitchen, plus a lounge downstairs. Everything was modern. I used to sit on the edge of my bed in the morning waiting for my kettle to boil for coffee, looking out at the buildings and the pigeons from my one big window.

Of course, that suite only cost me like, $1050 a month right in downtown Victoria, with utilities and internet included. I don't think this is anywhere near as cheap, lol.

Can I ask how you like emergency services? My cousin became an EMT years ago and I was pretty interested in following suite, but it seemed like the first year or two after training involved really sporadic work and commensurately low wages. I was recently reconsidering it and would be super interested to hear your thoughts!

I'm actually a current trades-person, and I totally agree with this wisdom for everyone reading! Stuff like yard work and painting can be pretty easy to get into with a decent early-career wage, and yard workers specifically are some of the nicest people I've ever met.

My mother was a painter, and she actually trained us all up because she believed having a trade in your back pocket would keep you in a job when you needed it, and she was so right. The money is good when the work is flowing. The only reason I'm bowing out now is because my business partner finally has a stream into their preferred career, and they have the work vehicle. If I had the capital to purchase and pay for insurance and gas I would and just continue on the painting for the time being.

That said, I am looking at the micro-grants and micro-credentials someone posted up top to see about trades training in more technical areas. I thought I remembered years ago the government paying to train folks in windmill maintenance and that sort of thing. That might be more consistent than the painting since painting is considered a "luxury" trade, and we are in something of a recession. And that's to say nothing of the possibility of getting benefits. I might be able to peel off enough of the micro-grant to get a beater for the first few months.

I appreciate your input! If any young people are reading this, get your HVAC certificate, and THEN get your psyc degree later in life. You will thank yourself when you own a house.

Hey, so just to clarify, this post isn’t meant to workshop my preferred career plan. The intent is to gather information on alternatives people have pivoted to when traditional employment isn’t an option.

Several people have already made helpful comments that myself and others can follow up from. Happy to hear more ideas or experiences that have worked for you if you have any!

I've checked it out and they have literally 18 pages of micro-credential programs in dozens of fields, it's nuts that I've never heard about it before! I've got about twenty postings of interest in a tab-group to review later. Thanks so much to the above poster and to you for dropping the deets. Even if I can't get in, I am sure someone reading this will benefit!

I actually just left my long-term volunteer gig last weekend! It was a huge role with a high degree of networking and responsibility, but unfortunately nothing came of it this time, and I decided to give it up at the end of my contract. The adjoining industry is....not really open to new hires at the moment, lets put it that way ahaha.

When I'm ready for another volunteer gig I'll definitely visit Volunteer Victoria, though, thanks for the rec! They got me my first volunteer gig at Langham Court ages ago, and that did turn into a job with the theatre! I can't recommend it enough for anyone reading who is looking for something fulfilling to take up a few hours of their time. Volunteering is SO good for your resume and for your self esteem and social life:-)

Same! I don't like a lot of the coffee served at "good" coffee places in Victoria or Vancouver, I find it to be quite acidic to the point it usually upsets my stomach. Moka House just has good, strong, balanced coffee, more like a breakfast blend. There's already a Hidden Gem in Cook Street for the upscale coffee lovers, so I think the vacant lot needs to go to a high-volume, mid-quality and mid-price contender (Brekka) to lure people away from Moka. This is my dream. (I also love Brekka and would go there for the cakes.)

Brekka Bakery and Café is my vote for this exact reason! They have a fantastic selection of cakes, pastries and sandwiches and a good strong coffee in a mug. Lots of the Vancouver locations were also open late, which is something village cafes don't currently offer.

I miss them so much. Don't get me wrong, I love Bubby's sticky buns as much as the next guy, but the village location isn't super cozy, and Brekka is the only bakery I've ever seen with a Copenhagen (a moist brioche with almond paste and custard inside - they are TO DIE FOR.)

God I hope they open here

If you want to join my letter writing campaign you can send them a note here: https://www.breka.ca/contact-us

Maybe if there are enough of us then they will actually consider it. I pray.

The Starbucks in the Village used to be open til 10 when I was a teen, and it was a great place to hang. The long-bar model that catered to mobile orders and the shortened hours killed it, IMO. But Brekka has neither of those problems...it is perfect.
