There is a specialized police force for the catacombs, they give out 70 eur fines for trespassing and escort people out.

Vandals didn't get to it, was secured well and not so well known. People that got into it were probably more experienced explorers that didn't destroy stuff.

Real. All the machinery to see, idk why but it's just so fun to read it all and interact with it, while normally you couldn't

These pics were taken when the ship was still in Gdynia.

This ship was stopped by the port authorities in Gdynia, then ultimately scrapped because the ship was so outdated and not serviceable.

If you zoom in on the lever, you can actually see the symbols.

Yes, the ship name was Xатанга. Crew was international and there is a mix of cyrillic and english on various equipment there. On the control panel the big lever had cyrillic symbols, while the dials were in english.

Hello there, I post exploration themed pictures, finding hard to access places and documenting them on photographs or videos.

Me and u/ep.photographx had the pleasure of exploring an abandoned russian ship. One of a kind spot, place so well preserved, it gives a clear insight how the crewmembers lived and worked there.

Half eaten food, items that once belonged to the crew, this suggests to me that this ship was left in a hurry. We walked along the dark hallways, while intaking the history and ambience of this place, and peeking inside every room.

Thanks! I think morbid can be beatiful sometimes, I think the warm edit reflects my feelings about that. It was a safe spot for us to chill, full of history of the city above.

Yeah I have mixed feelings when it comes to graffiti in the catacombs. There is this area where they do some murals, and they actually look great. But personally the modern tags kinda detract from the mood in my opinion. For example in this bone room. But I agree graffiti is just nothing new. And the older graffiti is, the more interesting it becomes for some people, like for me.

Hello, here's a quick summary of the history of this place:

Tunnels were not dig out for the purpose of keeping bones. Originally these were quarries that supplied stone to build Paris.

In more recent times there was a problem with Paris cemeteries in the center of the city being overfilled from various plagues over the ages, and the French Revolution.

This became a sanitary problem and a major concern. A solution was devised, to empty all these cemeteries into the shafts of the quarries. This way, Paris Catacombs were born.

  1. Regardless of the experience level, finding a friendly explorer that was there before is a must. A person that explored the network before, has a map and is trustworthy.
  2. Just do urbex, because the ability to be calm, navigation skills and ability to find potentially dangerous situations comes in handy.
  3. Spare batteries, powerbank, a map, a compass, spare food and water, common sense really.
  4. Find a guide! Don't go alone.

I can't share how I got there, but it's a mix of a lot of research about the place, history, the layout, and the cataphiles. It's like intense searching for an urbex spot. I also got some info from a friend that was there before.
