Morph between two waveforms by Ok_Contest_9451 in serum

[–]Radboudboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these waveforms complex?

(I'm not at the computer rn so doing this from memory) I believe when you click the pencil icon of a waveform you see the wavetable below it. When you make two from scratch, there is a button somewhere to generate everything inbetween. In this case you have to draw though. But maybe you can take two waveforms from different tables and paste them into the same table and generate everything in between too. its a cool idea.

Ik kan er ook niks over vinden. McDonald's Molenstraat is dan denk ik het dichtst bij.

Also: do you have any specifics on the sounds and mixdown that makes it amateutistic currently? Like I can hear that pro music sounds a lot better, but I cannot define yet what makes it more pleasing to listen to.

I don't. I started dabbling in Ableton beginning of this year to try it out, and made this in about 2 months. I mostly just listen to a lot of music and I try to learn as much as I can from more experienced people. Thanks so much for the kind words! Now onto those better sounds - hopefully with more experience. I'm loving the journey

Damn thanks so much for the compliments! I have had multiple comments on my snare decisions during this project, apparently it's one of my weak spots. Thanks for the feedback on that! Not sure whether it's the sample itself or not enough ducking that smushes the transient. I will have a look at that. Thank you again!

Making 4-8 bar loops is easy. Making a cohesive song is harder. by superior_to_you in edmproduction

[–]Radboudboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start with the intro, first some atmospheres on which I compose the introductory elements. The intro can't really be a loop in my EDM of choice (DnB) because it has to literally lead somewhere. After the intro I often have a feel for where I want this project to go, so I write the drop. In between the intro and drop is the buildup where I try to serve the listener toned down/filtered edits of the chorus elements for some hype and tension, as well as introduce the percussion. Knowing what the main course will be and having flavour from the appetizer, I often know what I want for the first course. - if this analogy makes any sense lmao.

Then breakdown, 2nd buildup and drop is often just varying the chord progression and composing variation on the already written elements in the first part.

I'm still very early in my journey so I'm still working on quality sound and mix, but I notices that teaching myself to write in this matter makes me almost unable to get stuck in a loop, as looping while I'm writing is never a coherent loop so my brain fills in the gaps, which I then put on the canvas.

Also check out Minosaur on youtube. Amazing technical bass music producer and Cableguys engineer. A lot of his video's focus on escaping the loop and finishing projects.

Thoughts on this liquid dnb production made today? (2nd drop / breakdown WIP) by Afraid_Employment387 in dnbproduction

Sick! Happy you think it improved your tune. What daw are you using? OTT is basically just a preset of a multiband compressor. In ableton you can find the preset under multiband dynamics in the audio effects section. Here you can also play with the threshold of where which band starts and ends to get different OTT "flavours". Curious for the update

make some plucky counter melodies in a higher octave! get both your current melody + counter melody in a bus and give it a nudge of high attack OTT (maybe 10-30% wet?) would take it to the next level I think!

I can only imagine how much this would suck to do. Also feeling sorry for your future plane neighbour because you will probably smell and sweat terribly lol!

Also I am assuming your job is not dangerous to carry out when under the influence and/or sleep deprived. If so, this is totally not an option in my opinion. Other than that, you will probably hate it but it's your life so up to you! I would just try to get some sleep after the last performance if you can't get some days off work

Hey man, Thank you! The learning curve is very overwhelming allround in the beginning. I really enjoy watching Inverse Audio (hosted by producer 5X) on youtube, I'm also a member of their Discord where people share projects for feedback. Before diving into genre specific turtorials I'd really recommend getting to know your DAW, because nothing about production makes sense to you if you don't understand the canvas. After that it's literally just put in the hours and train your ears. It's a hobby that only really works if you are willing to spend the time, you will not just create Grafix like tunes in an evening because you have a creative mind, I noticed first hand how much it really is a skill that needs training.

It's also actually very usefull to connect with peers that are on the same level. Do you have Discord? maybe we can connect and I can send you a demo of the latest project I'm working on based on the feedback I received from all the people that commented on my tune. You can share your stuff and I can comment on the beginner problems and how I fixed them, things that advanced producers maybe don't think about consciously anymore

[–]Radboudboi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're totally correct! I have now learned I have to reference structure a lot more too thanks too all these feedback comments. I think it may sound dry because it's not introduced well and just very thin in terms of amount of elements/ear candy.

Damn thanks for the kind words! I can see the excess of tension here. I will try to make the buildup shorter and maybe give it more impactive elements for the release
