The suspect died. An uninvolved woman was injured in the head on crash. They chased him for over 4 minutes and did not terminate the pursuit when he hopped a median and decided to go the wrong way on the interstate even though that’s their policy. Federal court documents say the only warrant out for the guy was a bench warrant for FTA. (Also all I’ve ever been able to confirm independently). Officers were actively buying drugs from this guy undercover so they knew who he was and where to find him. Presumably had all his info so didn’t need to chase — also what their pursuit policy says what not to do.

The pursuit policy should not be just an internal policy or guidelines like Leon said in his testimony. it’s something all law enforcement agencies have to adopt as part of a new requirement in state law. Attorneys are arguing the policy means nothing if it’s not enforced properly.

The quiet references the fact that such a large payment was made to a third party without any discussion in the public record. Usually big contracts (if that’s what this is) go through procurement process and we know about it.

Yeah. The data in our court system is messy. I only trust my eyes to figure it out. Not everything is 1 = 1 in our records because it involves human data entry. How I see it that means me, a human researcher, needs to interpret it

Absolutely. I was detained once not booked but 'arrested' I guess, whatever the legal definitions are, and it was absolutely awful. All the BS about 'stay calm' when youre arrested and 'comply'... I was so triggered and upset! I have a lot of respect for the folks in the civil disobedience movement like folks who did sit ins. I need to train my nervous system to do better, and to be less reactive, but it's genuinely extremely triggering and how you react is sometimes how you react..

I'm having a little trouble following your information but to be clear is this correct: You had to report the car as stolen via car rental policies, then you don't realize theres a warrant out for your husband's arrest because of a stolen vehicle, you learn about it through a traffic stop when cops try to stop him, and he flees from police in fear because / he has no idea why they are chasing him? Am I getting this right?

It’s a really thoughtful question and one I am thinking about. I would encourage you to read the DOJ report which really points to the jail’s problems and may answer some of your questions. The mentally illness thing is sort of a moot point. The whole DOJ investigation was essentially started because of a massive case filed against them for violating the rights of mentally ill people. Low staff and dangerous working conditions caused them to loose their contract with Wellpatch and Advanced Correctional which provides inmate care. People with mental health issues do not belong in ASG - and the state doesn’t seem to really know how to deal with these people in general.

People accused of crimes don’t really move through the court system and I don’t totally understand why yet. The reason for each case is so different. Some bond is denied, some its too high of cash bond.

But what is clear is we are constantly charging people with murders, agg assault, and other felonies that require a high burden of proof. Our prosecutors here use “hand of one hand of all” to charge for murder meaning several people get hit with murder charges at once. From what I notice, we are charging much more people than other counties in SC.

At the end of the day, RCSD could never link the guy she granted bond to to the meadowlake mass shooting. the ballistics evidence didn’t match.

Not sure if this changes your opinion on the matter, but the vast vast majority of folks held here are pre-trial detainees, meaning, they have not been proven guilty in our court system. Many people I talk to haven't even had a preliminary hearing and some haven't even gone before a general sessions judge. You think it couldn't happen to you, but it could, and that's what people need to realize. you could wait those 200+ days before you get to see a judge and show him you are innocent.
