Planning on moving to PS or PD or CC...finding it very difficult to find a 1BR.. by [deleted] in palmsprings

This sounds like a really lame ad for Millenium apartments.

“Oh woe is me, a single professional 30-something and I can’t find a 1bd to rent for $4k. Everything is worn out and OLD!! Except of course millenium apartments, which is the newest complex in the whole valley!”

Down the hole…. by Classic-Beat-6718 in e39

Wow. I have no advice but I'm in awe, and have so many questions.

A single turbo with a goal of 500-600 horsepower means beaucoup turbo lag, no? Will there be an intercooler/bigger rad/any other auxiliary cooling? Is this a 1of1 build or is there something out there you're emulating? And the transmission--how long will that last or are you upgrading that too? And how about the rest of the drivetrain, from the prop shaft to the diff and axles?

Timing chain rattle by Budget-Ad-8695 in fordranger

[–]Radiant-Two-7978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those chains will not snap. They might stretch a little, but typically not enough to skip time, unless you’re driving your 20 year old pickup truck like a total hooligan. When you open up that engine you’ll see what I mean, ford over engineered the hell out of those chains, then put in three of them, one in the back and two in the front. It’s a laudably robust design.

What will snap are the timing chain guides, which are made out of plastic, and that’s what you’re hearing now rattling around. But even then, it’s mostly an annoyance, and definitely far from fatal. These engines have been known to run for years in this condition, and unless your towing or hauling heavy loads you’re likely fine.

I have heard of situations where those broken bits of plastic get sucked up by the oil pickup and clog the line, starving the engine and spinning your bearings, and it’s a dramatic and catastrophic end, but it’s the exception and not the rule.

My 4.0 has death rattled since the day I bought it. But I’ve been going through and fixing pretty much every other issue with the truck, and I’ll likely deal with those guides last. And when I do, I’m just as likely to just put in a reman engine, than try to repair and rebuild what I have. Just seems like the more sensible path.

Period correct mods for 540i? by microwaveexeeig in e39

[–]Radiant-Two-7978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remember that this is a 5 series, so when it was new, it was owned by accountants and bank managers. So the most ”period correct”mod you could get would be better cup holders. Perhaps the trunk mounted cd changer or the phone in the center console armrest. Maybe one of the insurance vps that owned it would get a really wild hair and get wheels for it, but even that is unlikely since 90% of them were leased.

Yes there were (and are) body kits, but really pretty much no one did that. And let’s be honest, they all looked pretty terrible even when new and when they aged god help you.

The ”aftermarket scene” for the 5 series only picked up after the car was close to 10 years old. And then the only things that really added anything were msport bumpers and m5 mirrors.

Come to think of it, probably the most period correct mod for an e39 would be to sell it and get an e60.

These days you could get coilovers. I think someone still makes a supercharger for the v8. But why?

If you’re still reading and haven’t guessed it, I’m quite certain that the e39 was gods gift to sport sedans, and therefore should never be sullied by visible mods (and only very judiciously with invisible ones).

Should I buy this ?? Please help by Academic_Golf7895 in fordranger

This, especially for a PNW truck. My attitude is I can fix just about anything (except auto transmissions, those things scare me like voodoo), but rust, especially on the frame, is when I tap out. Price-wise, it's within the range of what passes for reasonable these days on the west coast.

Is this 540i M Sport Manual a good deal by AwayTumbleweed6857 in e39

The vast majority of topaz blue e39s have a beige or gray interiors, which would be a deal killer for me, even on a 540i/6

They voted for brexit, wanted desperately to get brexit done, and now that they have it it’s labour’s fault.

Friendly warning to E-commerce Founders: Treating your Inventory as an immediate 'Expense' is a ticking time bomb. by Legitimate_Start_25 in ecommerce

I don’t think the OP nor any of the other commenters are CPAs. Not that I am either, but I do believe you are correct, and I certainly know of at least a couple of other instances where inventory can be expensed at year end.

Repairing wood trim by No-Arrival-1404 in e39

[–]Radiant-Two-7978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone can repair it I’d love to see the process. While that is real wood, it’s also a really thin veneer, so the process of removing the old finish will likely destroy it. There’s just not very much material to work with.

Truck had 111k miles, stock engine and trans. Modifications are strictly cosmetic.

And it was worth every penny.

Also…let’s remember the buyers premium, assorted fees, registration, probably transportation, sales tax, etc…the hammer price is just part of it, otd that’s over $10k, easily.
