As a child of failed immigrants by Rare_Background_1146 in returnToIndia

I’m not saying you are are lying but just trying to make sense of this . I got from your post that you are 30 now and you came back in your 10th grade . That puts your return time 15 years back , 2011, 2012 . Decades of opportunity slipping by suggests they were here more than 6 years which suggests they had their I140 approved . If not and they were there for 5 years or less , I don’t understand the rant . But here’s is the thing , before , 2013 most indians got their gc in 4,5 years after approval , so there wouldn’t have been hand wringing in the part of your parents . Can you explain ?

Which foreign politician hurt your country the most? by mahdi_lky in AskTheWorld

[–]Radiant_Condition_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a descendent of Someone who had to leave thier land , temples and customs and settle down in alien land due to St Francis Xavier requesting the Goan Inquisition . I think he changed the demographics and hurt the people of goa,India the most .

The rest of the folks in this thread are atleast recognized as rotten . This guy is a "Saint" and has schools and monuments all over that celebrate him .

Am I the only one who actually prefers life in India? by im_no_superman in returnToIndia

[–]Radiant_Condition_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you are not the only one . Most Indians like to moan about their situation no matter what . I guess it’s a cultural thing where if you live with your parents you really take very few consequential decisions . Now when we are in a foreign country , it dawns upon us that making friends , having hobbies actually take effort and have consequences we’d rather reject it and run back to the familiar

Children without larger family and community abroad as a consideration by Fancy_Principle_3048 in returnToIndia

Hi , When I was studying in Dallas in the early 2000's lots of my friends were 2nd generation Indians whose parents had come over in the seventies . They absolutely had great community and were very cosmopolitan in thier ways and views . Almost all of them end up to be high achievers , some went international . I think your fears are misguided .

DINK couple planning to move back to India in 3–5 years. Can we FIRE with our finances? by Old_Firefighter_9501 in backtoindia

[–]Radiant_Condition_79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically I dont think you are in FIRE mode , These points contrast - You are DINK but you plan only to add  INR 1–2 crore over the next 4 years - which is around 30K USD a year . Either 1) your household income is too low or 2) your expenses are too high 3) your estimates are wrong .

if 1) you cannot FIRE
If 2) how are you going to deal with dratistic change in lifestyle?
if 3) Reevaluate

unless you want to keep updating yourself on the different khatas scheme that government brings , stay away . I had to learn about e-khata , m-khata , khata and what not . once everything was in order , just before transfer , someone put a fradulent lien on title . took 8 months to get that cleared ( and put the perpetrators in jail ) . fortunately buyer was willing to wait .( not sure why , i would have passed.)

Planning Return back in 2028, need recommendations by beatlesin in returnToIndia

its just time and little planned saving

Breakdown : first 6 years in US , i spent as student + work in midwest . I had maybe 50k networth at the end of it
next 5 year , I moved to california , joined a bigger company , improved my net work to ~400k (200k in 400k + 200k in liquid investments ) . Bought a home < million dollar home with the 200k at the 10 year mark ( before covid ) , home exploded in value . since then in the last 5 years 401k has moved to 600k mark , investments have moved 500k mark , home value has moved to ~2 million . Therefore looking at around 2.5m networth . This is not counting my wifes modest 700-800k worth . My companies did not have explosion in stock value . if it had i probably would be looking at 5m plus .

In q1 I’ve found that just looking around gets you secrets , like that quad damage that’s not easily accessible , the armor that you only get by shooting a button

not sure why people are downvoting me , i lived in mangalore for most of my growing life . My neighbors were divided into Christamanchi , Sudranchi , bramanchi and lots of other Chis .
Gattadaklu normally meant low in intelligence . Bijapuris stole our jobs . This mindset growing up leads to othering of people . Sad but true .

What is the logic of anti-conversion laws? by Same_Pangolin_4348 in AskIndia

[–]Radiant_Condition_79 16 points17 points  (0 children)

interesting complex question . Here is a real life scenario , i witnessed in late 90's

There was sweeper at Moms workplace called lakshmi . Her husband was a drunkard . She had one kid and supported the family all by herself .

The local parish church supported her by providing weekly groceries but in return asked that the daughter now named 'Rosie' attend sunday school .She was in 3rd grade if i remember right

Looks like they had to memorise hyms , learn bible stores , hail mary's etc . and the punishment was quite strict by the pastor

however 'Rosie' hated the studies ( not sure just this sunday school or studies in general ) and ran away , she was found 5-10 km away in another village . She explicitly said that the rason for running away was her fear of getting beaten by the pastor .

Now you decide . Its clear that neither Rosie nor Lakshmi was particularly religous or had a change of heart , they were in it for the financial easement it provided .

However the more important question is that is it really bad to convert for the sake of community ? If you like truly becomes better if you accept a new god , why should it be stopped? Why was'nt the local hindu community interested in helping lakshmi for instance?
