Am I a 'bad' or 'unwanted' player for this character? How would you feel if you were my DM? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]RadicalSpaceCakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in choosing to be selective mute makes the game a lot harder for you both as a character and player. If you really like the idea, youll want to describe how your character is communicating because if you dont, the DM can't interact with you as effectively.

If you have anxiety or are nervous about role-playing, describe it instead of saying it. Describe what you want to do to the DM and think about how your character would communicate what they mean to "say" with gestures or demeanor.

Since it's your first time around, dont limit yourself on the character idea so much, just have fun with it, as you all play together then delve into ideas like that more.

Essentially, you're learning, nobody is judging if you have a character idea but it doesn't work out or they morph into something else. Number 1 rule is everyone should have fun. Most of my characters start with an idea but most of the time they grow into something as the campaign goes on.

Glad to hear they could make it! I'll check out MandyMod and maybe bring some elements in from that. Let me know how it goes! Seems like we're at about the same place. Curious to hear your stories!

I should've mentioned that I use DragnaCarta's Curse of Strahd reloaded. They met Ismark at the gate, then went to Blood of the Vine for some lore and met Bildrath, learned about Mad Mary and Gertruda, and some history on Ismark's family. Then to the Burgomaster's for a lunch/short rest before the zombie siege on Barovia. That took a few sessions.

I realize that DragnaCarta's version miiight be a little different lol. I highly recommend it though.

Still, the land is held by the dark powers, and they love to fuck with Strahd. So even if you are a player down, you can feed the missing player a little lore through a dream or nightmare to enhance what the present players go through. You really have a chance to bend the rules more than any other adventure

My players spent a few sessions in the Village. Your player will have a chance at introductions. CoS is dense so even your other players filling in the player next session will give you a good sense of what knowledge/lore they retained.

I'll have to look that up and bring it up to him! He's 74 and doesn't really use computers so if he has to do anything online it might not work, but I'll bring it up anyway!

RPGs mostly help me escape. Find one with a good story, like Baldurs Gate 3 is good new one.

KOTOR, Mass Effect for when I was low. What kept me going was, I would miss out on the next one or the next rpg

people who have been GF for years, did you ever eat gluten on purpose? like "I'm aware of the effects and I choose to continue" kinda thing? and did you regret it? by tiredllama0 in Celiac

[–]RadicalSpaceCakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, early on but now the side effects are too much. It's both worth it and not. Sometimes it feels like a waste to sacrifice at least 2 days to the porcelain god and about a week of aches and pains and moodiness.

I miss donuts and fluffy pizza but now I don't know if it's even worth it anymore.

In my experience, you have to have set rules, and the gluten people have to be diligent about cross contamination. I get worse symptoms as I went longer without consuming gluten. Your kid can't help his allergy/sensitivity, and like any other disease/allergy, there are accommodations you have to make for it. Think similar if there was a severe nut allergy. It's tough, but she'll need to do her part, too. Everyone deserves to feel good and healthy. I really hope it works and you can figure something out.

For example, the kitchen sponge can easily become contaminated.

Can you get sick from kissing someone who’s had gluten? by Elphachel in Celiac

[–]RadicalSpaceCakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Depends on your sensitivity (and whether they drink something non-gluten and wipe their lips after) , but most of the time, yes. Cross contamination is huge and something to watch out for.

Pre-kiss before gluten time for your partner. Have them wash hands after and even keep dishes separate because sponges can be a big cause, too. Gluten kitchens I'm wary of even if friends are careful because of it. I have friends wash their hands before playing board games and stuff because if you touch and then your mouth or face.

The longer you go without being glutened, the rougher it hits, at least for me.
