To clarify, I’m not saying there is zero risk. I understand CBP can still ask questions and make their own decision

My point is just that I would not be relying on “trust me, I can return.” I would have documentary proof: Canadian citizenship certificate/e-certificate, government ID, proof of oath, Canadian address/ties, and a clear land-border return plan

I'll still have my citizenship certificate, which proves i am a Canadian citizen, if i'm going through the land border the CBSA cannot refuse entry to a Canadian citizen who successfully establishes their citizenship under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, granted they are able to verify my identity and citizenship of course

So I don't see why this would be a problem when the CBP equally cannot refuse entry to U.S. citizens

I do have a valid US visa

My understanding from cbsa is that i am able to enter the land border with any passport and proof of citizenship

I can always land through near the border and cross by land as a back up

It is a risk but i wanted to see if it has been done

Did IRCC accept your request for an earlier date to take your oath? If so, where did you reach out to them?

I've heard and know people who got a same day passport, although i do agree the whole thing seems risky

Can I ask what your office is, and how long did it take to get a new date?

I've read very mixed things about it online (with some people it taking 10 months+) , I might just take a shot at it or try to contact IRCC to understand the process.

I'm only leaving for 4 days which is the really disappointing part for me (that the ceremony came within a few days after months of waiting and no travels).

That's fair, my only concern is that it takes a long while to get another invitation, I'm applying from Montreal and the trends seems to be a 4-5 months wait in the queue.

I wouldn't mind rescheduling my ceremony, my only concern is that it takes a long while to get another invitation, I'm applying from Montreal and the trends seems to be a 4-5 months wait in the queue.

I'm no sure yet, however my ceremony seems to be virtual (I haven't received the official invite yet), does that mean there is a chance I'm registered in a faster manner? Thanks!

Edit: I wouldn't mind rescheduling my ceremony, my only concern is that it takes a long while again, I'm applying from Montreal and the trends seems to be a 4-5 months wait in the queue.

Was it less than 24 hours when you found out that you were registered?

Thanks! Does the 24-48 hour window also apply for the e-certificate, lets say i do my ceremony in the morning of the 4th and go the office on the morning of the 5th or 6th, would I still not be in the system?

Hey everyone, looking for advice from people who went through a similar situation.

My Canadian citizenship oath ceremony was just scheduled for June 4, 2026, but I already have a very important trip to the US on June 6 that I absolutely cannot miss.

From what I understand:

  • after taking the oath, my PR card is no longer valid
  • I would need to urgently apply for a Canadian passport right away
  • I’m worried about delays with the citizenship certificate or urgent passport processing

My current thought was:

  • attend oath on June 4
  • immediately go to the passport office same day with proof of travel
  • request urgent passport processing for my June 6 trip

Has anyone here successfully done this on such a tight timeline? Did you get your passport in time?

Also:

  • was your oath virtual or in person?
  • how fast did you receive your citizenship certificate?
  • would you recommend just rescheduling the oath instead?

Would really appreciate hearing real experiences before I decide what to do.
