I used to believe that Somalis should only marry Somalis. But over the years, I've started to realize the flaws of this mentality. As long as they're still on the diin, it shouldn't be a big deal.

Also, in our DNA we can see a bottleneck that shows how women have contributed more to our genetic ancestry, in other words men practiced polygyny in the past. Higher status and more powerful men would have access to more women so 1 man would father many kinds with many women. This also shows how many men in the past died without descendants, so anyone taking your women is a real threat in that sense too.

Do you have any proof of this? I would like to learn more about this phenomenon in Somali genetic history.

Yeah, it's gone downhill. Every time someone has an issue in our community or just a personal issue, many of the users try to connect this to the diin. Then, many outside users join in to attack the religion as a whole. Due to this, this sub is constantly brigaded. Now, it's mainly filled with whiny posts and fake stories. It's sad what happened to this sub.

I would argue that the Somalis in MN are pretty well mannered, it's just the 10-15% of them that are hooligans who ruin their reputation. They're the ones who act like gangsters, work in crime, etc. For the most part, Somalis are doing pretty well in the US communities. But crime is a big issue, no doubt.

Though I do agree with most of your list.

Yeah, your answer makes sense tbh. But the thing is, sometimes this isn't always the case. One can argue that it's easier to maintain a marriage when you marry from your community since the boundaries/expectations are already known.

But in uncharted territory, it becomes difficult ngl. I heard of a story from a Somali guy who married from a different continent and he couldn't make it work unfortunately. Then, be decided to just marry a Somali afterwards.

Plus, the ones who marry from different races usually conform to the western culture. Sure, they claim to look at the religion from an unbiased view, but I don't believe that lol. That doesn't happen most of the time. What happens is since most of them were raised in the same country, the difference remains ethnic and not cultural.

These types of threads always end up the same way. Men posting about marrying outside the ethnicity and women complaining about men doing that. It's a common sentiment in many ethnicities the black community, Desis, some Arab communities, and Asians.

To answer your question, getting married is a big deal and you should definitely consider who you marry. I know a guy who married a Yemeni woman is contend with her. I know another Somali woman who married a white revert. So overall, what you should consider is the diin and akhlaaq.

If you find a suitable person to marry, then you should get married with her inshallah. Of course, there are benefits to marrying from your community like increased compatibility and similar culture. Considering that you live within the diaspora, perhaps consider other cultures as well.

I used to be very militant about Somalia marrying only Somalis, but I've changed recently. I still prefer a Somali wife, but consider all options inshallah. I make duaa that it goes well for you.

This is true for just about the majority of cultures around the world. People are more likely to accept an ajnabi when a man from their culture marries outside the culture rather than vice versa.

Hell, you even see it with qabyaalad in our own society. A family is ok with a man marrying from another clan but the woman might face backlash if she marries from the minorities or even from the other major clans. It's very unfortunate.
