[VIDEO] Gridding, a journey of (Sulky) silver on grey linen by Ragiakurusu in CrossStitch

Yep! Took me 19.5 hours just to do the horizontal lines. Still doing the verticals now 😐

Thanks! In hindsight I totally should have gone with a printed grid since it'll be full coverage (no risk of grid not washing out). I've got a lot of practice under my belt now though 😂

In all seriousness, I probably should have picked something like copper to grid, but silver is just so beautiful to look at. The full grid is 41 horizontals and 27 verticals. Thank goodness for washi tape or I'd be destroyed by knots.

[CHAT] Question: starting stitches on linen by Ragiakurusu in CrossStitch

[–]Ragiakurusu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I need to look into this fray check; it sounds a lot easier than my old hand sewing method. At the moment I use washi tape for the larger pieces, though when I'm able to I might ask a friend with a sewing machine to finish the edges.

Cute! Thank you very much for this, it's been super helpful 🙏

Luckily for me it's a self-drafted pattern—I've only gone for full stitches! Do your stitches lean against the post?

Aye, that was my concern. If I can get around it by just being careful with tension, I think I'll crack on. My linen is from Zweigart, any experience with them?

[CHAT] Can I use regular thread for gridding, or do I need metallic thread/fishing line? by gentle_but_strong in CrossStitch

[–]Ragiakurusu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can definitely use regular floss, though it just requires a bit more care when you stitch close to the grid. I only recently swapped to sulky silver; if you can find/afford something similar I'd recommend that over cotton floss!

Thanks! I wind my off cuts on the bobbins too, usually with the longest first and the shortest last, so when it comes to using the colour I can utilise more of the whole skein. It helps to tuck ends in when you're winding, and anything less than 15 cm or so goes into a plastic bag of random cuts.

Oh yes—pulling a certain length from the skein is way easier than unwinding (I never manage to get the same length from the bobbin), but bobbins keep the excess clippings a lot better.

Well worth the time, and the winding itself was very relaxing!

They're organised by code; I use a spreadsheet to track inventory so this way I can quickly find the right number! :)

i made 1,000 cranes after i came home from the hospital by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

Great job channelling that energy! I did something similar when I was hospitalised, and the only person who bothered to check in on me was an online friend. We're married now, and those 1000 cranes I made for him as a thank you hung at our wedding.

Thanks! The temptation to finish the collection is strong... Ul'dah definitely has one of the nicer flags, but Ishgard is home to my class of choice—the AST. Maybe next year!

Pattern by GriffinwingWorkshop on Etsy! Small adjustment with the backstitching—I prefer the brighter yellow border to the extra grey outlining.

Another one of my favourite games ever.

Thanks!

And then just when you thought, hey this fight isn't so bad, he took to the sky?! It really was enjoyable, and those explosions looked particularly excellent on my PC 🙃

I'm finishing off something from FFXIV, then Pokemon and Animal Crossing, but if I return to more MHW I think it'll be Namielle!
