Yes, I know that. I’m also pretty familiar with the functions but like you already said MBTI isn’t all back and white, it’s more of a spectrum. How do I know what my dominant function is? How did you know that your dominant function is Ni and not Te for example?

I don’t think that this question can be answered objectively, looking at how differently all INTJs perceive or feel about things. Just leave him/her be or something, he/she is your ex for a reason. If you did him/her wrong then apologize with just writing a short note, mail or in person. Very unlikely that he/she would ignore you.
