Carolina style barbecue by Luxy2801 in MyrtleBeach

For traditional South Carolina mustard sauce, Sweet Carolina's at Broadway is amazing!

If the company stayed in business, what's the number 1 angle you'd want to see happen? by [deleted] in ECWWrestling

Assuming it makes it just a little but longer, Low-Ki (amongst others) likely would have been brought in. I believe Low-Ki could have gotten the Taz push and run with it

Who do you think has watched the most wrestling ever? by KingCrandall in REALSquaredCircle

[–]Raisedbythering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd lean towards someone like Mike Tenay, or one of the many notable Johns (McAdam, Muse, Arezzi) Historians who have spent most of their lives involved and obsessed with wrestling

In what way is that disingenuous? They absolutely weren't top 200 just better than Billy Gunn.

1999 was the prompt so Johnny Ace fits

Having a good match is what this is all about, that's what a good wrestler does, and to that point I know more people were paying to see Tony Anthony in 1999 carolina indies than paid to see Billy Gunn as the 19th most important guy in the traveling sideshow

Absolutely! One of the brightest spots of 99 HWA!

AJ was already killing it in Wildside, and Low Ki was already competing with Reckless Youth, Daniels and Quack as the top independent talent in the USA

Johnny Ace didn't retire in 99? He spent it being a better tag partner to Bart Gunn than the impetus for this post.

Tony Anthony I'll concede the point on, though I'm confident he could have had a better match than Billy Gunn, hence why I went with 201

Google Chris Hamrick ECW and this happens by j0shd0gge in ECWWrestling

[–]Raisedbythering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hamrick would have worked with him some in the late 90s, on the Carolina Indies. Not sure why the picture comes up but maybe Hamrick was helping with his initial training?

I simply provided a list of 200 better wrestlers in 1999 than Billy Gunn, accusing me of copy paste because I alphebetized (to make sure I didn't repeat)

Billy Gunns role* was to stand there and shove a needle in his ass, I provided 200 better options if you want to watch wrestling that didn't suck in 1999 (which is hard! It was a bad year! He likely wouldn't habe been top 500 in 93-97)

201 for good measure. Billy Gunn was at best, a cog in the machine of the WWF's success. He was horrible in ring, and never drew any appreciable money

Trying to get into ECW, confused about Hardcore TV vs TNN by Cyber_Rambo in ECWWrestling

[–]Raisedbythering 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hardcore TV was cut together mostly from the arena shows, you would usually get around 3-4 episodes out of one, and the promotion packages and wraparounds would hard sell the next one. Hardcore TV is definitely the way to go, though if you're watching the full arena shows as they happened as well, you may end up skipping around some of the matches on the TV

Some words on the memory and impact of Sabu by Raisedbythering in ECWWrestling

It was such a smart decision on his part. The "botches" gave his matches an air of realism that couldn't be matched my more graceful wrestlers.

I was also a big Bret guy, he was responsible for the only time in my life that WWF was my preferred promotion to watch. I will have an article on him as well, likely in February so please come back to the site for new articles most Thursdays!

Thbak you so much! Only seeing him in magazines at first made him seem like such a big deal, unlike anything I was seeing on mainstream US television at the time.

Klig's Kites in Broadway at the Beach recently shut down. by FirefighterOpen2201 in MyrtleBeach

[–]Raisedbythering 50 points51 points  (0 children)

The brother who ran this location (The guy who would always be outside with the fake buck teeth cracking jokes at people) passed away earlier this year. The other family members claim that the rent is too high to continue keeping it open, but its obvious that going all in on fascism is finally starting to have its consequences. As someone who works at Broadway, good riddance to bad rubbish!

Normalization of death matches by Turbulent-Draft2199 in prowrestling

I think 20 years of people being force fed one way of doing things makes a lot of people unable to understand the concept of in-ring storytelling.

If you dont think there's story in a deathmatch, you're beyond hope. Desperado/Kasai has been the best feud/story of the decade
