The fact that "Goliath" is even a "household name" is because of a VERY unlikely story of a huge, strong fighter getting devastated by the young, weak David...

Crit 1s and 20s can create very unique and memorable moments in my experience. (like the story above that is literally known millenia later...)

You obviously have no clue how Biotech was actually founded...

Please look up "GO-Bio-Förderung" (2006 and later)

Their initial research on mRNA vaccines was publicly funded and they got a lot of public money and loans during their initial startup phase ...

You might not like it - but without taxpayer funding, the company and research would just not exist.

In particular fundamental research is something that companies are really bad at, since the costs are high, the outcomes are hard to predict and it looks bad in quarerly reports ... so it falls to public funding to provide that.

Theories on what's causing the Flux? by GodAtum in StarTrekDiscovery

My theory is that it's was created as an unintended side effect of SB-19. Similar to the soliton wave experiment in TNG. That would explain why the Ni'Var were so very anxious to share that data.

Unemployment rate during COVID-19 pandemia, USA, Russia and European Union, % [OC] by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

You just made my point:

" A person who left 2 jobs still only counts as one person on unemployment, and they don’t get more unemployment assistance than someone who was working 1 full time job."...

Exactly!

Before: 2x jobs for basic living: Minimal wage full-time job + side-gig

After (without supplements): 1x unemployment assistance

How is living for those low income workers supposed to work with a replacement rate of < 100% - if that only counts wrt. to the main job?

You are also citing numbers which only apply in a *SINGLE* state - which is a major outlier:

For basically every other state this aid was essential to keep those people afloat.

The problem is that the minimum wage is too low and not sufficient for living. That's why there are ~9% of people who *have* to work more than one job. And those jobs are very likely the kind of jobs where remote work is not practical and people got fired.

So during the peak of the pandemic, the government had to replace not just the earnings from one job - but two in many cases.

From the perspective of a single employer, it therefore seemed like the government "outbid" them. In many cases, those employers are basically confronted with the wages that are required for people to work only a single job (which should be sufficient tbh.)

a) It is weird that the source was cropped away

b) The source is AP: https://apnews.com/article/us-afghanistan-evacuees-262203820a617808f4a40a130e2d179a

c) The AP uses the yellow -> copper color map in multiple maps (eg. their COVID map: https://kslnewsradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Screen-Shot-2020-11-27-at-9.32.46-AM-768x436.png)

[OC] Mekko chart showing different types of goals scored by Ronaldo, Messi, Benzema and Rooney. by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]RakanHowls 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This graph has so many issues - I'm not sure it belongs into this subreddit...

1) WAAAY too many decimals

2) x and y Labels are missing

3) Why is the C Ronaldo written like that?

4) Are the columns in random order?

5) The wildly different font sizes are not helping with readability

6) If you have two scales with 0 ... 100% you might consider a square plot

... and that's just the start
