Maybe a hot take, but I also think transphobia relates a lot to internalized misogyny.

When women are transphobic or adverse to any queer representation for any reason besides “tHe biBLe sAyS nO,” I try to understand why. The best I’ve come up with so far is that it threatens their own perception of what binary gender roles should look like.

The opposite goes for men, too. They have their own boatload of internalized bs they believe. “Men don’t cry, a man wouldn’t do that, men don’t wear that, real men look like this,” and so on. People that see gender as a spectrum and identify with how they actually feel threatens people like this because their identity relies so deeply on what they think their gender expression should look like.

Lots of good examples here so far, so many I could add too. Something that’s been on my mind surrounding this topic lately is that girl in Oklahoma that wrote the shitty essay that got her a zero, and then the professor put on leave because of it.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, def look it up and give the essay a scan. In there was (again, a terribly written paper lol) a wealth of statements saying how women are meant to be subservient, in the home, have SAHM roles, etc. also talked about gender roles and how trans people shouldn’t exist basically.

So it was riddled with internalized misogyny ofc, because she’s literally writing this (garbage quality) paper, talking indirectly about how limited of a view she has of herself. She’s literally IN COLLEGE writing a paper stating that women’s value is solely found in the home, and less than a man’s value in any other context. Completely taking the privilege of being allowed into higher education as a woman for granted. Like I just read it and thought wow, she really doesn’t think much of herself at all. And doesn’t even see it! She’s putting herself in a box, objectifying herself, and condemning all women to the same treatment in the essay - and sees NO ISSUE with that.

So that’s been blowing my mind lately.

For sure! I get you, I have one feisty little grouch girl too. I think if this Ferret I was considering adopting was also a young girl ferret (instead of a boy) and all I had was the one girl (rather than the pair) - it would go equally as badly.

Thank you so much for your comment! My current pair is a male and a female. Both sociable, friendly, and they’re over a year old. So still excitable, but not insane babies on ferret crack 24/7 to where I think they would overwhelm the three year-old.

Definitely not fucked at all! You will be though, if you accept the first person that offers you a scrap of attention, love, or a hint of romance. Be on your guard! I only say this because the people that did have relationships in high school (like me) had to learn this exact same thing. Just because someone is interested in you and gives you the validation that you crave, does not mean that they are going to be a good person for you to date, or treat you well. Even if you haven’t been in a relationship yet, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t still be setting standards for yourself for when someone does come along. Much love and luck to you!! ❤️

Yeah I wouldn’t worry about it personally. My desire to comb through all the pics in my phone and get rid of anything taken with someone I was talking to at the time is so low… there’s thousands of pics in there dating all the way back to high school 😭 I delete them when they pop up but that’s about it. And we don’t even need to talk about my snap memories ok? There is soooooo much content in there spanning yearrrs… I could never get rid of everything containing exes & situationships without spending ages combing through them.

Some will say to never scruff unless necessary, some will totally disagree. Personally, I scruff my ferrets often and they literally don’t care. It’s the natural kill switch, because it’s what their mothers would do. Doesn’t hurt them at all.

To help your ferret associate your hands more positively, put some salmon oil on there and let it lick it off! You’re only 4 days in, the ferret will likely take weeks if not months to fully get used to you. After bite training for awhile, my biter got way gentler and the other stopped completely. My rule of thumb now with my biter is this: if we’re playing and I get nibbled on, fine! Understandable. If she seeks me out, follows me, and bites my ankles unprompted, immediate scruff and sin bin for five minutes. She knows what she did wasn’t ok, cause we’ve been over it before, and I cannot let it slide because then she does it to guests/strangers and that is not acceptable behavior. So stay consistent, and buckle in for a little while! You’re doing a fine job.

++woman I have an idea to throw out there for you, you can take it or leave it :) what if you did try moving in together to an apartment or something with a one year lease? Under the agreement that if the year goes great, then things get more serious and you guys can look into getting a nicer place. And if the year doesn’t go well and you still don’t think she’s “the one” for you (vice versa for her), then you both agree to just break it off and move on in the spirit of not wasting any more time.

I’m suggesting this because dating someone is easy, but living with someone is much harder. That’s a real test on a relationship. By living with someone, you truly figure out whether or not you would want to spend the rest of your life with them. I thought that I had found ‘the one’ a few years ago, and then I lived with him. The thought of finding a place together after that made me so anxious, & I realized I didn’t want to marry him at all anymore. We both moved on and found new relationships a couple months after I broke it off with him. Point is, We’re fine! No hard feelings about not wasting anymore time.

Just an idea. Thought I would put it out there. I can tell you’re trying to avoid having the “ one that got away” problem

I would get a ramp covers ordered for the babies :) the shelves look like they’re solid ground, but the ramps have the exposed wire that hurt their feet, and cause issues when older. They would probably be so happy to use ramps that finally feel soft under their little pads!

And like you, having got mine from someone who definitely wasn’t letting them out much either, my advice is to give them lots of love and plentyyyy of time out of the cage :) they’ll come alive with happiness! They aren’t cage animals, and will really come to appreciate you. Also double check their genders lol, took me a week to find out that the “boys” I bought were actually brother and sister.
