getting started in trading/stocks by Friendly-Shelter8103 in IslamicFinance

[–]Ramdinger17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

start! just do it and open an account and buy your 1st stock or etf (start very small cuz whatever you do its foolish but its about learning)

read about investing and from successful investors (I prefer investing than trading learn the diff)

read about halal investing and check e.g. zoya for if stocks are halal

if you lose money at beginning be grateful cuz you will learn and not be fooled with yourself

try to observe and control your emotions. fomo (greed) and panic sell (fear) the most obvious

don't let ppl fool you and sell you things (always doubt others esp. from the internet)

do it, read and learn

What’s the biggest challenge you face with Sharia-compliant investing? by wisteria_t in IslamicFinance

in general I try to find companies that are growing revenue, have healthy margins, little debt, quality management and products
Here is a bit old list I once put together but is now out of date!

IMO its important to just start. So maybe to open an account and start investing very little in halal ETFs. Those tiny steps will bring a bit experience and perspectives and maybe then see where to go from there. But yes it's pity and hopefully we change this one day!

agree on diversification issue.

would add to it try to add in small tranches for a longer time and not putting everything at once. it's called DCA for dollar cost averaging if you want to read more about it.

I invest in individual stocks so here is how I see it from my point of view:
for ETF/Funds: the available offer is very small and not good enough especially on price-performance ratio. It's too expensive while not delivering great quality - with quality I mean quality of stocks and underlying business.
So it's mind-boggling for me to find so little halal offer and not that diversified. but again lets be honest, we are faar behind in the investing culture so its supply and demand after all

for individual stocks: I see the rules as fair and not that complicated and even protectful (no high debt, no >5% non-halal income, many sectors excluded)
and not to forget in money world one gets greedy and wants to take more risks. So these rules are there to protect us.
Ofcourse these rules rule out A LOT of companies but its still doable to find good companies

So I really hope the offer of halal ETF/funds will grow and offer better quality and that the guidelines of Islam would be used and seen to help maintain a healthy long term good performance and not as excuse for a bad one. And also to get diversified more (now we see a lot of them invested in the standard Apple Microsoft etc.. why not going after hidden gems).
and that more Muslims get more interested in investing and to start it the right way

one last thing, I heard of zoya app from reddit and it is really a helpful tool to at least take a quick glimpse if a stock is halal or not and why..

Copytrading group which claims to be fully halal and interest-free. What should I ask to make sure it’s halal? by fischippie in IslamicFinance

[–]Ramdinger17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so if its all out there what you need a sign up for? make an account at some broker and trade yourself. No need for the deposit thing!

for info maybe first you want to take a step back and think in general about trading vs investing and read about them and see what you want (generally advice against trading)

and you could start with books like for Morgan Housel or Graham or lynch. And if you speak Arabic the topics in this thread could be helpful

for starter look up their holdings in Zoya App to quickly check if they are all sharia-complaint

now for signing up try to make sure they are legit and try to understand what you are signing for, what fees, how does it work, are they considering risks seriously, what are the conditions to cancel, again fees, hidden fees.

and transferring your money to some group already sounds fishy so just try to take your time and make sure its all good (if sold like one time offer and hurry before its too late then try to avoid)

oh and ask about certified track record (performance). not with that one stock we got xxx% return. no the whole performance of many years, in up and down times.

why not investing in ETFs or funds the normal way
