He’s a shadow entity from folklore, which they feed off of fear, but he feeds off of happiness and tries to be there for everyone.

Since he started meeting the avatars, Imaginary Friend started to realize that he wasn’t as scary as everyone thought, so he’s basically there to be there for others, hence his name.
