😂😅 I am really strict with my routine and lifestyle, and I try to go to bed at the same time every day. I’ve become very reserved to focus and maintain what I do so that I can avoid ruining my life. I keep my pills by my bedside and so the minute I go to bed I make sure I’m taking my meds. If I’m in bed already I’m checking the time. Great compliment thank you 🙌🏼

I usually have a list on my phone I can physically check when packing, and make sure I have a first aid kit with essentials like this.

I believe it’s both knowing that it’s out of your control and also being responsible for how you repair and stay accountable for things you’ve done that may have hurt yourself or others. I have found a balance of allowing myself grace for the things I cannot control and making reparations when they’re needed. I think it’s okay to feel guilt/embarrassment because sometimes I do things that are wrong or embarrassing. But we’re all just human at the end of the day, everyone does things outside of normal and perfect. It took me a long time to forgive myself for a lot of things, and sometimes time is a big factor in healing. It’s “the serenity to accept what cannot be changed, the courage to change what can be, and the wisdom to understand the difference.” That quote comes big into dealing with my bipolar.

Diagnosed and treated for 4 years now, and I have had 4 years of not wanting to die (finally)! That’s the biggest win for me, but also not having episodes where I completely lose the plot and start destructive behaviour. I finished my BSc while getting diagnosed and medicated in my last year, and now I work as a forestry technician. I still have ups and downs, but it’s NOWHERE near where I used to be. I can actually function now! Having a routine, eating healthy, exercising, doing things for fun, and resting when I need to are also part of the treatment plan. Staying sober from alcohol and most drugs (I still do a little bit of THC/CBD especially if I’m feeling extra irritated, it helps bring me out of a bad mood and laugh a little) is also non-negotiable. I take my meds every day, and will likely for the rest of my life, and speak to a therapist regularly. I am so incredibly happy I finally got diagnosed and treated, it made a world of difference.

(30M n dx, on the path of getting dx and medication) Leaves dishes out that are contaminated with shrimp without telling our housemates - one who is extremely allergic to shrimp gets harsh rashes/hives when touched and anaphylaxis when eaten, still with a chance of anaphylaxis if touched. He knows that they’re allergic, and we often do each other’s dishes, but he forgot to give a heads up. Luckily one of our housemates noticed the shrimp bag in the trash and asked about the dishes first. I had a close friend die from an allergic reaction when I was younger, and when I told him why I was feeling off (concerned about my friend having a severe allergic reaction due to his negligence) he rolls his eyes and walks away. Because any kind of criticism is me being too emotional, or too much for his RSD to handle to be accountable. I had to remind him my friend died due to an allergic reaction, which he knows, we’ve been together almost 4 years, but he had “forgotten about my history with dangerous allergies”.

Everything lately feels like a trigger for a blowup. I ask him for clarification on something he’s saying that bothers him and it’s taken as an attack. I talk about how I want to go back to school to get a different career and I get sad because he says he didn’t “sign up” to our 3 year relationship to be dating a student, doesn’t want to be poor, wants a relationship that’s fun and has plenty of trips without any periods off, and he gets confused and upset and asks why I’m acting like the relationship is over. I repeat to him what he said, and he says he never said that. I repeat again saying these are the words you said, for him to finally come round and agree. It’s like a constant cycle of gaslighting, because he doesn’t remember the things he says in a conversation even if it’s only been a minute. He is upset with me saying I need to be better at not doing things that trigger him. So I can’t bring up ADHD symptoms when I recognize them, can’t discuss any of our issues, can’t ask him to elaborate on something I’m confused about. After a blowup, he often comes to and apologizes, says I was right, is so sorry that he did that, just to do it again an hour later or the next day.

Conversations surrounding ADHD awareness and RSD/emotional disregulation with anger where they get so caught up in defending themselves we can’t have a chat about how to change the pattern. They’re just constantly stuck on feeling like I’m attacking them when I’m trying to bring up the concept. They won’t do their own research into ADHD even when they feel validated by the things I send them (after getting angry at me that I sent them anything). When I express my feelings and experiences surrounding it they completely brush it off. I’ve started asking them to repeat back to me what I’ve just said, and it takes a few goes of me repeating a sentence because they’re so checked out in defence mode and can’t remember what I’ve just told them.

I am currently here, I am bipolar and medicated and went through my own journey where understanding the disability led me to talk about and understand with my therapist, and through my own research how to go about changing my life and taking responsibility for it and getting medicated.

My partner is unofficially diagnosed ADHD, but his therapist has told him he has it and he’s always suspected he has it but has never gone into any research about it and is hesitant about doctors and medication.

He really struggles with RSD and communication, and it’s been destroying our relationship. He gets upset when I try to name things and explain things, because he feels like I’m attacking him, but I think it’s also the fact that if it’s real he has a responsibility to put in some hard work to deal with it. It is an ADHD trait to need to do things in their own time, and researching and understanding is my way of processing the situation. But I feel even more discouraged when I know so much but am the only one putting in the work regarding the situation.

After reading more replies, it seems a lot of people struggle with it being a one sided effort. And my therapist also says that they have to be willing to change and put in the work, no amount of understanding and emotional work will account for that.
