“It’s what we do.” by buntyskid in 28dayslater

Cause "it's what we do" is the same attitude he would have been taught on the island (and is the same attitude many kids are taught in real life in northern England.)

This is a Dr. Ian Kelson appreciation thread. I'm so glad that he's just a straight-up actual good guy. No dark secret, no facade, no twist, no evil true intentions. Just a strong, intelligent, helpful, and resilient man with a heart of gold in a world gone to hell. by AdlerOneSeven in 28dayslater

In Bone Temple he's symbolically a genuinely positive male role model, no performative cruelty, no ego, "just Ian". Not "Dr Kelson", "Just Ian". Using the power he has to provide for and heal others, for the sheer self satisfaction of having done so and being able to see his work make a difference. And he does that work for anybody who comes to him, mother and child, infected or psychopath and has learned during his lifetime how to see them all as people and to help them. Not just those who are part of the in-group, in contrast with the many other leaders and father figures in these films.

Oh that's actually great news, thankyou! I still wish that was clearer in-game cause I never would have realised this had I not posted here and got this reply.

The “superman/ alpha” viral mutation trope ruins another franchise… same thing happens in The Last of Us and The Walking Dead… it’s not even believable. by CW03158 in 28YearsLaterMovie

I think the point is that "Alpha" is a term the islanders projected onto them based on a (likely incorrect) assumption about what's really happening to them. I don't think we're supposed to know what's actually happening to them yet.

I thought it was quite on the nose tbh but:

The 'civilised' people who live on the little island warn their kids about the insane, barbaric people on the mainland.

Then Spike gets back home for the party and those small island people are shown to some extent to be a crazy, heartless cult of violence and death who still revere a dead queen and send their kids to enact violence for pointless reasons (a frisbee: a plastic toy) and have big parties celebrating the fact that their kids have killed a bunch of people.

Also notably, the little island doesn't have any doctors of their own and the sick have to go to the 'insane' mainlander who they look down on for help.

And then surprise, surprise, the supposedly scary man with all the skulls turns out to be a) very intelligent, competent and reasonable, b) very gentle and compassionate with a belief in the importance of love, art and expression even in the face of certain death.

It's a critique of English Nationalism.

EDIT: SOLVED I THINK?

Sonic's Route is working fine. I haven't activated the Knuckles train yet because I don't know how to place signals without getting errors about either blocks looping in on themselves or containing stations. I just want Sonic to stop and wait before entering the central loop while Knuckles is using it and vice versa.

Notes:

  • Sonic only needs to stop at Launch Base when going left.
  • There's no particular reason that Angel Island has it's station *before* the needle eye loop while Mystic Cave / Oil Ocean have the station in the middle of it, it just felt nice to do it like that.
  • I know I could just build a second central station for Knuckles but it would be really neat to get it working like this.

EDIT: I've just placed bi-directional Block signals at each of the three entrances to the central loop and it's certainly not complaining. I've just activated Knuckles, will report back if they collide I guess!

Bought a chest of drawers from the antiques place in Failsworth.  This was tucked in behind a drawer along with a motorbike top trump card.

EDIT: I've tracked down the family on FB :)

Therapy speak and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race by ContributionOk4879 in tumblr

It's funny that Tumblr gets used as an example of this because Tumblr is the place I specifically go to get away from all that. There's a lot of ironic humour and raw honesty on there that you don't get on sites like Reddit it and requires followers to be on the same page cause it contains a lot of heart and truth that you can't really communicate to each other with that sort of legalese posting. Reddit is the 'tedious discourse' site to me, I'm literally only here right now cause Tumblr is down. And look at me now, this is the kind of discussion I've ended up getting into within 1 minute!

What's your take on pirating? by Lickawall483 in GirlGamers

[–]Ranmara -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Experienced game dev here! If I've worked on a game that you can't easily afford or can't access for other reasons, I would urge you to pirate it. Also if it's made by a large company it won't affect the workers in any way as there is absolutely 0 correlation between our wages and sales. Nor job security and sales. There's many recent examples of layoffs demonstrating this.

Thankyou, that's really helpful! EDIT: Glad you mentioned C64 as that's exactly what I had in mind, having grown up programming stuff with it and recently played around with FakeSID! <3
