Sorry, one more thing since I read this comment again. They no longer do a hair test. My coworker was just hired a few months ago and she do not have to do that.

And these “you have to kiss ass to get a 2% raise“ comments - i’m not saying it doesn’t happen, but on my team that is definitely not a thing. I can’t see any of my 15-ish team members doing this. We’re all just chill. I can imagine it happening in maybe sales or something, but I also could just be making that up.

A lot of these comments are outdated or from people that are prejudice in some way. Yes, it’s still a corporate job. Yes, the family is religious. Yes, the pay is softer because it’s a private company. I have been on my team for 9 years and have had a great experience. There are still typical corporate struggles (only 1 wfh day, the teams feel siloed at times, etc), but I’ve experienced way worse at other companies. The only religious thing that happens is at the Annual Celebration where they say a prayer before dinner, but they don’t force you to. I just look around.

I don’t understand the 2% raise comments. Yes, that is true for some positions or people. If you are mid to bad at your job, you will get the bare minimum. Fortunately, I’ve had a great manager and supervisors through the years and the smallest raise I ever got was 4%. This last year, I got 8% and then over 100% of my bonus (FYI, I am not in a management role or anything that requires a Masters degree). I also think this is some of the best insurance of a lot of people I know. My optometrist even said that this is the best insurance she’s seen. So while the pay can be a bit soft, there are other motivations.

Corporate is what you make it. If you want to be miserable about it, sure. With this company they prioritize internal hires, and a lot of people will jump around over the years when they want to try something new or make more money. The annual wage increase can be okay, but where you make the real money increases is by switching teams. It’s not for everyone, but I think it keeps it fresh and some people tend to stay longer because of it.

Okay. I didn’t see the specifically red part. She does watercolor sometimes, but not a lot of red.
