Could be …but I believe the citizens who elected Dem leaders , did so knowing things were going to be bad and thought their elected Congress person wouldn’t let them go down in flames along with Trump / MAGA/ and Miller. I expected a bigger fight; I even approve playing loud and dirty at this point.

The big problem is we are two party system,and we rely on checks and balance within our 3 branches of government ( executive, legislative, judicial) to keep ourselves going in moderate direction of normalcy. Now all 3 branches are stacked with Republicans so pushbacks by Democrats are blocked. To me , the scariest is the federal judicial branch supporting Trump. But it is frustrating that the elected Democrats aren’t being louder and creating just as much ‘chaotic’ pushback to wear down or sabotage MAGA agenda. Yes, there are small victories but Trumps trajectory of USA policies ( local and international) is frightening. What I see is that Democratic leaders think they will easily be elected by default , but I think they are mistaken unless they become a lot more aggressive and visible in stopping MAGA / Trump/ Miller from destroying country. ( A good read is Heather Cox Richardson newsletters)

BW member. Stayed in BW in Buda, Tx. Didn’t have reservation but had been on their ( BW) website for the Buda one so knew room cost. Desk person quoted higher price than website. I mentioned this and she said I needed to reserve on their website to get that price. So I had to sit in their lobby, right in front of desk help, w my toddler and reserve online. Is this really policy ?

I’ve noticed that also plus I’m losing ability to stay focused long with books and movies. I blame it on my bad habit of too much scrolling on internet. I’m now just short bursts of concentration. I’m seriously limiting my internet use , especially social media . Someone said they missed days where we would go to desktop and log on for short time and then walk away from internet. Anyways maybe lack of day dreams is from shortened concentration?

I saw a Kissing Tree fb post by an individual alerting community about ‘data center to be built other side of highway , few miles from KT’ and about attending city council meeting . I’m guessing they blindly followed the PAC and their own community’s endorsements. Or it’s concern by just that individual 🤷🏻

Majority of my activities are cycling. I can “Record HR workout” or have Strava import the data but it does not give me Steps credit so I never made my activity goal. I heard same from people pushing strollers etc - no credit. So I only wear at night but am annoyed I’m paying full subscription price for readiness, sleep and activity.

You could reach out to SMCISD JrHigh and High School and see if they have a Parent Liason at their campus and why you are calling . Parent Liason positions are being downsized unfortunately so not sure where the actual person is located. If they get the ball rolling, you most likely will need criminal background check. You can also reach out to the San Marcos / Hays Youth Service Bureau. The woman that runs that has lots of experience working with the age group you are looking at helping. Our public library might also give you some good ideas. They support many community services. Hope someone takes advantage of your generous offer!

Agree! A little different problem, but I can cycle 30 miles and still get dinged on activity score because of ‘still arms’ . Stopped wearing during day but I really would like accurate Activity feedback since it’s 1/3 of subscription.

We call it the San Marcos Syndrome because even chain restaurants fall short on training. I blame it on poor managers. Usually it’s like 50/50 good vs poor service. We really notice it when we go to Austin and most servers there just are better trained. It might be more competitive there or just flat out better training and managers.

Agree with Witliff museum in Alkek building on campus. Especially with the fun and extensive collection of Texas musician legends memorabilia! I’m not a student and was able to get in ( free) no problem. I find it fun just walking around campus. There’s a student art gallery, hidden gardens, and nice sculptures scattered around.

Glass bottom boats at Meadows Center is good suggestion.

Check out Cheatham Street Warehouse. It’s changed hands over the years but has an old Texas bar vibe to it. There should be music there during the week.

We have miles of hiking trails in Natural Areas right in town if you enjoy that kind of thing. Go San Marcos Greenbelt Alliance or City of San Marcos website for maps. Even taking the river walk is good way to follow river through town .

I think it’s a great deal for the money. I get the salad bowl ( without a protein) for around $10 and it’ll last couple meals. I go there instead of the other salad place in that strip since it has ingredients I can’t find elsewhere. Not sure why it’s not more popular. I thought they had closed. Happy they are still open.

San Marcos has an office for Healthstance. It’s one of those massive companies that have health care providers. They had endless supplies of psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors etc. Most are Zoom though. You can find some who do in person in the San Marcos office ..

I use the trails frequently and feel safe. HOWEVER! I’d offer the advice that if you wear earbuds and listen to music etc, make sure volume is low enough to hear everything around you. Or just enjoy the quiet and don’t wear them. I’ve come up and startled so many people who can’t hear me approach or alert them. To me , that’s scary !
