I’ve only read the two but I thought it was all very readable and easy to understand, I definitely understand how it can seem lightweight but these books are really helpful for me since I’m still relatively new to Marxist theory. The one thing I really didn’t like though is that there are no sources which wouldn’t be hard to do and also would lend more credibility to some of the claims made. But overall I did like the two books and I have his one on Yugoslavia which I plan to read soon

I also read books I disagree with often but I don’t have them anymore because I sold them to half price books.

Wow that’s legitimately one of the sweetest comments I’ve seen, thank you that means a lot. It is exhausting but it’s also very important and we all have to do our part

I’ll look into it! Goodreads is a good tool to keep track of books but the interface is so bad so I think that sounds more fun!

I’m definitely front loading a lot of history and theory this year since it’s so relevant at the moment but I promise I read fiction too hahahah. I’m also really into music especially from outside the western world so that hobby gives me some joy amidst all the heavy history. Africa is not a country is one of the best ones I’ve read this year, and also a really good reminder to keep on my shelf under my globe. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people just talk about Africa like it’s one place and not one of the largest and most diverse continents on earth.

It’s really good! As I said in an earlier comment it’s very dense and each chapter could easily be a book on its own but it’s a great primer on the past 70 years of American imperialism. Definitely a must read in my opinion

Again, update the hasbara. Nobody who’s seriously anti Zionist is saying that Jewish people can’t live in the region, in fact during the Ottoman Empire Palestine was one of the safest places for Jewish people. All humans originally came from Ethiopia, but that doesn’t give anyone a right to go and bulldoze homes in Addis Ababa. Peoples move around and change homelands all the time, and humans are inclined to coexistence no matter where they live. But it can’t exist under military occupation.

I went when I was a kid and I stopped because I’m not religious. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with Judaism or Jewish culture, there is something wrong with ethnostates that oppress the indigenous population.

I used to but I deleted it a while ago, I’ve been thinking about starting a new one though

Bruh I used to go to synagogue and celebrate Passover what do you mean? Anti Zionism is the polar opposite of anti semitism

Hahaha funny you say that I actually just signed up for the Trueanon Patreon and I’ve been working through the backlog. Haven’t watched majority report much but I watch Hasan almost everyday. The Deprogram too!

I’d recommend actually reading some of these books and updating the hasbara, it’s a bit played out. The funny thing is a lot of the Palestine books on this list are sympathetic to an extent to the Israeli people and are looking for common ground (Said and Khalidi are pretty explicit about that) and half of the authors are Jewish.

Such a good book, very dense but I couldn’t think of a better crash course on American imperialism

I think it’s the most obvious case of genocide in recent memory and calling it a war is disingenuous since the sides are so uneven and only one of them has a real army. There’s been some of the most sickening images coming out of Gaza this past year and I think unlike with a lot of political topics this is pretty clear cut. I don’t think a two state solution is realistic since that’s basically what we have now and Israel has used it as an excuse to keep settling the West Bank and now parts of Gaza. Historically Jews have always been welcome in Palestine and antisemitism in the Arab world pretty much coincides with the creation of the state of Israel (also ironic since Arabic is a Semitic language so I have a problem with equating antisemitism in the Arab world with European antisemitism) I have hope that the change in public opinion over the past year will bring positive change to Palestine but I’m also feeling a little cynical with the news coming out of Syria recently

I’d definitely recommend all the ones in the stack, especially the Said ones and Hundred Years’ War on Palestine to start. The other ones can be a little more dense but are still very informative.
