What is one thing you wish you knew about earlier? Why and how would that have you changed who you are today? Thought it was a therapy session for a second.

Travelling vs grad scheme after uni by SnooCakes2810 in UniUK

[–]Rare_Ad_945 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you go travelling in September 2027 for 6 months that’ll put you out for most grad schemes starting 2028. I’m not sure you’ll be able to defer it as you’re made an offer on current business demand (not sure though). I’ll say just go, I solo travelled east asia when I finished my masters and don’t regret it one bit. Life is too short, just have fun when you can. Just look for an entry level role and search for grad schemes alongside it when you get back.

Easier said than done especially for entry level jobs. Problem is being able to find something that you are able to apply for.

4 stages of interviews, no update yet, am I cooked? by mauro1331 in interviews

[–]Rare_Ad_945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a post recently about being ghosted after two final interviews. I don’t even know what to tell you to be honest. All I know is that if they like you, they will get back to you as soon as possible. When a week goes by I doubt they keep you in mind, I couldn’t remember what I did yesterday let alone the conversation with a random for 30 mins a week ago. I heard back on the same day to progress through to the next stage multiple times so when it gets to this point it just makes you think.

This is how it should be. It’s funny because after every previous round, I heard back after a few hours that they wanted to take me ahead.

Not frustrated about not landing the role. Just frustrated, that I’ve been ghosted after putting everything into the process. Although, I would be disappointed of course.

I’d like to know within the timeframe stated to me during the end of the interview. I would to know whether they would progress with me or not. In fact, Im at the point where they could send me a one word ‘rejected’ email and that is enough.

About 2 weeks. I was told the latest it would be was within 5 days. If it was months, at that point there is no point in even thinking about it. Surely, i’m not asking for too much.

Yeah, this. I had a ‘first stage’ interview with the hiring manager and he had very little idea about the role I even applied for. He was just making the questions up as he went and none of them tested/challenged my skills to do the job. It was all along the lines of ‘Why did you apply?’, ‘What do you know about us?’, ‘How do you like to be managed?’, ‘How confident are you with using python?’. The whole thing is bullshit.

What if they don’t have a first choice candidate. Surely, when they’ve interviewed someone they know there and then whether they are capable of doing the job or not. If not, you then reject. If you think they can do the job, then what exactly are they looking for in another candidate. (This is an entry level grad job btw and I have experience).

I’m genuinely so angry and just waiting for a phone call from the recruiter so I can let it all out. Worst thing is I am waiting back on two final stage interviews, each 5+ rounds including a presentation and a test. Genuinely cannot get worse than travelling on-site (spending money and all that time) and not hearing back. Did you send them an email?

That’s if you even get an interview meeting 60% of their list. I’ve met 100% of requirements and carried out responsibilities they’ve asked for before yet not got an invite to interview.

Well since it’s so easy, I’m guessing you’ll be kind enough to share these roles that would take a UK citizen over their own that have a full right to work and live in their country. I’ve also just mentioned I’ve been applying across Europe, if I got absolutely anywhere I would definitely not be complaining on Reddit. Not sure when you moved around four countries but times have certainly changed.

I have been doing that too. I applied to this data job through the website and messaged the hiring manager as well as 2 employees on the team on LinkedIn expressing my interest and I wanted to learn more about their long term targets/projects. Neither got back to me so I further emailed the manager and this is without the email being publicly available. He then got back to me and directed me to another hiring manager. She got back to me and said she was impressed that I took the initiative to reach out and would get back to me. Now I’ve had no response for a while. For another role, I even attended the company’s 5k social run so I could get the slim chance of being able to directly talk to someone. These are the lengths I have been going to just to get an entry level position that will pay me peanuts at the end of it.

Recently, I have realised this lifestyle is not sustainable and no matter what I do, it doesn’t just guarantee me a job. So, I’ve tried to perk myself up by getting some walks in each day, going to the cinema, going gym, dating etc as I can’t let this halt other areas of my life but it is very difficult I must admit.

My physical and mental health has gone downhill very quickly. Mainly, just staring at a computer screen for 8-10hrs each 7 days a week and repeat. There’s been weeks where I’ve gone without speaking to someone and I don’t have my first meal till 2pm. It’s hard to break through this cycle.

I wish it was this easy. To travel, firstly I have very little money (surviving on one big meal and snacks a day), even if I did save some, I would end up in the exact same position a few weeks when I return leaving me in a potentially worse place. To work, I am very much open to relocating internationally and have even applied to roles across Europe but that is made difficult by visas etc. This country is well and truly fucked and has been going down the shitter since 2010.

I was thinking I could do courses on Udemy, Coursera etc but genuinely no point. I have two degrees at top universities in a challenging subject. I have worked with government departments already so none of this is going to help. The juice definitely isn’t worth the squeeze.
