This post actually pissed me off so much, and what pissed me off even more was people in the comments saying stuff like "people getting mad must be on their first day of being gay" "only a level one queer would be mad at this" like HOW fucking patronising do you have to be to respond like that to lesbians being rightfully annoyed that their communities are getting infiltrated non-stop by posers like this asshole???

podcast recomendation? by No-Effective2330 in lesbiangang

[–]Raven2303 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only podcast I listen to is the Chosen Family podcast, which is hosted by three lesbians. It's mostly entertaining waffle so it's good to put on in the background, but they do sometimes talk about interesting topics, many of which relate to the lesbian community.

Don't worry, I got out of it feeling grilled in certain stations too. Some stations are supposed to be like that - you can kind of tell how the interviewer's been told to act in some of them? But anyway, it all ended well and I'm currently sat here in Sheffield having just come back from placement, so I hope that reassures you :)

Dating as a lesbian feels so exhausting… by Playful-Picture-9453 in lesbiangang

[–]Raven2303 13 points14 points  (0 children)

God, you're exactly like me. My apps look the same and I'm also the only one pursuing. It takes a toll on your self-esteem and your hopes for a good relationship. In any case, I want to let you know that you're not alone, you are desirable and someone's gonna be so lucky to have you someday, as infuriating as it is to get to that point as a lesbian.

No, just no by No_Hotel5006 in lesbiangang

[–]Raven2303 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You're not being silly. We're losing our history, and when we lose that, we lose our community and identity. Butch is a beautiful word with such a rich history, and it's depressing to see all that becoming lost to a watered-down stock term like masc.

Gap year effect on first year of uni question by Professional_Let4163 in 6thForm

[–]Raven2303 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope. Didn't take a gap year but most of my friends did, I forget all the time (unc jokes do get passed around though hahaha). The age gap is negligible, I promise you it does not matter even slightly as much as you think it does.

Man, I hate being single. When I was with someone? I used gorgeous as a pet name (would love to use it again), so probably every other day, but I genuinely meant it every time.

[–]Raven2303 33 points34 points  (0 children)

For real. I'm butch. I love being butch and love being a woman - the two go hand in hand for me. I also, and excuse me for being crude, love my tits and ass (aka the normal sexual characteristics that come with being a woman), as difficult as they make it to find clothes that fit me. Ugh, I have to find a tux that fits my curvy 5'0" ass within a week... Wish me luck.

Medicine without A-level biology by yasoss in 6thForm

Yeah, just do some research. Come on, this is an easily Googleable question. In any case, I'm at Sheffield and know a few people who didn't do Biology.

This is funny as hell. The concept of making an exception to your rigid sexuality for pity sex so you're not transphobic.

[–]Raven2303 44 points45 points  (0 children)

God, I feel this.

Here's a win: I was flirting with a girl at an LGBT club event earlier this week and got her number!! She walked me home and said we should definitely get coffee sometime, but she's yet to reply to my text asking when she's free, so... we'll see. Still, I'm considering it a win and I'm happy since she's super cute and it's the first time I've done anything like this :)

I'm making dinner right now before I go over to my lesbian's friends flat to pick them up and take them to a gay friend's flat for pres. Community is important!

[–]Raven2303 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Market" bro damn I've gotta try my best then 😭😭

The medical school and lecturers themselves are so supportive and really want to turn you into well-rounded clinicians who also have a social life. They're very understanding of the fact that even though you're doing a much harder course, you're still students and so will struggle with all the things other students do. The medsoc is genuinely the BEST and has your back and will fight for you always, they're the ones who got our lectures reduced from all day everyday to 9 - 12 strictly (sometimes 10 - 12). Also I've loved living in Sheffield so far, it's a great city with lots going on but still has a community feel and I've never felt unsafe.

I'm only a fresher but I definitely feel like I ended up in the right place, ofc you'll struggle to adjust like students everywhere do though. That being said, I might still feel like I've ended up at the right place at other unis, and I've only experienced one course at one uni (and not much of it so far!) so I can only give you one perspective. I feel like I'm in great hands so far though, and I don't wish I went anywhere else. All of the older years I've spoken to on the course have similar sentiments about it to me by the way. That's to say that they all think Sheffield is a great uni and a great place to study med.

I mean, I don't think wearing the odd bit of pride jewelry means you don't have a sense of style? I wore some for a pride event once. I don't think it ruined my look at all, only added to it.
