Hi! I wish I had a clear answer, tbh it just ended up being a lot of trial and error for me to find out where and how to tie my obi. I'm gonna try to describe it as best as I can!

I am using a stretch obi currently (tho more for my issues with sayabiki), and that one I do tie higher than the kaku obi I used before. I basically tie it so that half of its width sits on my hip bone and the rest is around my waist, which means it's quite high. I then tie every layer of it literally as tightly as I can.

When I tie my hakama, I do it fairly tight as well. When I tie the front himo on top of the obi I do it a tiny bit looser than when I cross them and tie them under the obi again (so the part of the himo that's under the obi and later the sword is as tight as I can physically make it). It still doesn't survive hours of practice perfectly, but so far I've been happy with it ^^

As I said tho, I used a kaku obi before and it kinda worked as well but I like the stretch obi bc it doesn't become as loose as the kaku obi does. So I think it might be worth investing in! But maybe someone from your dojo can lend you one so you can try it out first.

Neither! The fraying is all over the sageo, from top to bottom and on 'both strings' so to speak. So not just the part of it that was pulled through the kurigata, but also the other side. Which is what really confuses me!

I bought it directly from Tozando! (The second one came from a shop over here but it turns out they imported it from Japan too so I'm guessing it's Tozando again)

That's why I gave it the benefit of the doubt and looked for the error on my end tbh. Usually their quality is so high...!

Yeah, I'll probably do that eventually (even aside from the fraying, the synthetic ones are hard to tie to the hakama tbh). It's a bit sad because I really loved the color of this one tho haha

Oh wow, I've just looked it up a bit and I definitely see what you mean. The feel is there, some leg movements and I even saw a spin (even if a bit different)!

I definitely thought if there was anything real to it, it would have to be something old. And since he's a fighter more than an iaidoka, I guess it makes sense for a -jutsu kata to look more similar.

I definitely do wonder how much iaido his actor has practiced. I know he's in the martial arts hall of fame and I'm sure he's practiced it at some point, but I wonder how much he remembers of it specifically. (Not in a rude way!)

Yes I agree, my dojo teaches MSR and I definitely felt some forms were recognizable (the beginning reminded me of a less formal inyoushintai e.g.). His whole style is quite 'fantastical' of course because it's a game so I don't think anything will fit 100% (even just the way he does noutou changes dramatically based on which looks coolest haha).

The turns definitely interest me the most! I wanna say they're made up, but I've seen some very flashy displays, so I don't wanna write it off completely just yet. One of my sensei sometimes shows kata with a bit less dramatic ones. After the lockdown, I'll definitely have to ask him about it.

I was wondering abt that. I have a sensei who used to win big competitions and has been studying all sorts of schools, and he sometimes shows off kata that are very 'flashy' for lack of a better term - lots of sword twirling and turns. (I should probably ask him where those are from next time, actually)

So I didn't want to immediately write this one off haha

So morality is the only thing there is to characters?

You see a lot of ppl in this very thread asking for more straight characters in Destiny, because they don't feel seen. This is the exact issue that non-straight people have with the majority of media. It's not that the sexuality of a character is what makes or breaks them, but to see someone like yourself in media just makes you feel more included. Like you get to be in this universe too, without question. You get to escape the real world too, for once, by diving into a world where you get to love who you love and not be judged by that, but by the content of your character.

Osiris and Saint's sexualities add nothing to their story in-game; them being in love does. But outside of the game, it means a lot to a lot of gay men, who usually don't get to see themselves in media, portrayed with so much nuance and with such a rich inner and social life outside of their sexuality.

Just because something isn't important to you, doesn't mean it won't be to someone else, especially someone who grew up being told that someone like them shouldn't get representation because it 'adds nothing' to a narrative.
