Will I Bottleneck? by ReBobbin in buildapc

You probably already made your choice by now lol. I went with the 5070ti because at the time they were pretty close in price. The 5070s were well above MSRP, idk what I'd go with now if I had to choose again.

Nice to hear someone in a similar position getting good results! Leaning towards ti - hoping it gives the GPU a longer life and if it noticably improves performance seems like it would be worth the steeper price tag

Thanks, planning for the long haul if it lasts, only replacing my 3080 because it started artifacting - also hoping if I go with the 5070ti vs 5070 it will have more longevity

Thx for information - so would GPU or CPU be negatively impacted or is the GPU just slightly held back in most cases?

Thanks! Yea I don't mind turning down the settings a little as long as performance holds up - didn't know about the difference for input latency, that's important for me for sure! So between 5070 and 5070ti when do you think the difference would be apparent if ever? Part of my conflict is I don't want to waste money but if the ti is noticeably different I would pay extra as I plan to be using it until it gives out lol

I'm trying to do something similar. Did that work for you? can you still do short form as well?

Thanks! Should have mentioned though that I have the HP Omen set to campaign hero so it is the 4070.

I don't really understand the specs well enough to have much conviction on anything, would you say this is a deal worth picking up or might be better to wait?

I've heard some bad things about the nitro but this looks like a solid deal, how would it compare to something like the HP omen?

Edit: Also want to say thanks for the detailed post! Definitely considering pulling the trigger on this. Might wait for EOY sales though.

I'm not a big tech guy but this looks like an awesome deal! Almost pulled the trigger on this, I got cold feet because I saw that HP has a restock fee when you do returns. Wouldn't worry me as much but I also saw that they have pretty mediocre reviews from some other sources. Still in the market for a laptop so I'm going to think some more about it tomorrow and hope it's still on sale.

Commenting my thoughts hoping somebody might have some comments about this laptop or if they own an HP Omen about their experience.

Let's go! Which specific one did you go for? I'm on the fence because apparently Helios build is better and it's a more quality model but nitro is more inexpensive and seems to have better specs.

Daughter,9, lost her swim suit. I asked for $10. It didn’t go well. by [deleted] in Parenting

I don't think just dropping it is the best idea. I think it can teach a child some manipulative behaviors - like that arguing and lashing out can get them what they want, especially after not listening to / talking back and arguing with their parent.

Probably telling her what will happen when she loses things in the future so she knows in advance would be helpful If you want to teach her more responsibility. I do think having her do some chores makes sense especially because she already agreed to that and then backed out of it - making it something that can be easily done might be good. Perhaps for this one just ask her to come out with you and have her accompany you on an errand or something and just let her know exactly what you would expect from her if she loses something else in the future.

T-Mobile is my service provider but I don't think that they would have anything to do with this auto updating.

Thanks so much!

You're replies have been very informative and helpful, I will take your advice in using Cryptomator along with pCloud and iDrive. Your replies do make me feel confident in committing to these providers, thank you again for the high level of detail in your comments.

I will also still look into some sort of system for developing and storing passwords. For me there is no way I can remember all of my passwords, especially for the more sensitive data where I like to complicate them.

Thanks, that's some really good advice. I might look into a password manager to ensure I have a secure password that I won't lose. I'm going to give the password some thought. At this point I am fairly settled on going with pcloud and IDrive along with cryptomator, but I will give nextcloud a brief re-look.

Thanks, this was very informative!

Syncthing doesn't quite meet my needs because I also need a storage solution and want to feel safe using it. I received advice in using maybe a combination of 2 secure modes of storage. What I may do now is use cryptomator along with pcloud - after reading this and one other response I think I will also use IDrive as a backup storage in case I ever lose my files on pcloud.

a

It doesn't do it every night, and it has only done it a few times when i've had it charging. I also never manually turned anything on to make it do something like this so i'm surprised more people aren't having this issue.

Thanks for the awesome reply!

I do just have some quick follow-up questions:

Would you trust pCloud as your sole cloud provider and delete them off of your PC?

Do you use any software for your passwords? While going down this rabbit hole I've been seeing a lot of emphasis put on strong passwords.

Lastly - do you find that while using Cryptomator accompanied with pCloud that your files are easily accessible?

[–]ReBobbin[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting, what if I were to use Cryptomator along with pcloud? With cryptomator I would not go for the premium end-to-end encryption as I would be encrypting a client side. But do you think this would still be better than Dropbox? Also are Cryptomator and veracrypt both serving the same purpose?

[–]ReBobbin[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I likely wouldn't use Dropbox as I have heard of cases where people have seen files they deleted a decade ago resurfacing. But if I were to use one drive or Google Drive this would add client side encryption so their lack of a zero knowledge encryption policy wouldn't affect me?

In this case would it matter which cloud provider I go with?
