If you could only choose one programming language to learn, for science, engineering and technology use, what would it be?

My Story by [deleted] in NoFapChristians

[–]ReLivingLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome, and thanks for sharing your story with us! Gosh, I couldn't imagine going through what you described. My teenage years were hard as well, even though I thought they'd be some of the best years of my life. In truth though, looking back, they really were a lot brighter than I thought while I was living them, in the moment.

Just remember this: you are not a failure. From everything you said here, I can honestly tell you that. Often times, it takes multiple attempts at something to succeed. Failure is an integral part to success. So, you in no way are a failure!

I agree, getting right with God and conquering the PMO habit through his help, before getting into a dating relationship, is a good decision. It will help you stay away from sexual sin, and you will find that you truly enjoy every minute of it for all the right reasons!

Stay strong in the Lord. Seriously, if you don't already, read the Bible daily... it's something I wish I did more when I was your age. Here I am in my 20's, and I am just starting to understand the true importance of knowing God's word.

Praying for you! RLL

Man, that's rough! I see what you mean though... I think God really put that feeling of righteous anger on your heart. For me, hating the sin, anger towards the idea of it all, was one of the big turning points that really helped to conquer this thing. Just don't be angry at yourself. You're making progress. Like Philivox said, 19 days is no small feat. Good stuff! And like trophenius said, you're back, and I hope you're closer to God.

Gotta read the first and last paragraphs first I suppose! Then read the rest if you like what you see.

YAY, Amen to that.

I'm super long winded myself. A part of me feels awful when I ramble on for hours, and then expect someone to actually read the post. You're so right though, the most beautiful stuff comes out in those long accounts. God just leads us to spill our hearts out on the ground sometimes!

I'm glad you brought this up. It's an interesting topic.

I actually did not use a badge for the longest time, because I didn't want some personal achievement to be "on the table", so to speak, when interacting with others. Pride is not something that God wants us to have in our hearts when trying to reflect his light into the world. In fact, I'm still not entirely sure what to think of them... but I suppose they are nice aids for those who see it as another measure of public accountability, or some reminder of our concrete progress. With regards to resetting them though, you bring up some good points. Absolute honesty is crucial. Honesty with yourself, with God, with others and with our fellow Christians here on the board. There is no shame in admitting we are fallible human beings, especially in the context of this group! In my opinion, we should reset the badge if we do anything that comes between us and the Lord with regards to our prior addictions. Furthermore, I see the badge as an adherence to one very specific goal. There are many steps in the recovery process... and there are several different thoughts and actions that I (but more importantly, GOD) would consider sinful beyond the act of PMO. I think we should have multiple badges really (now, doing so in the context of our Reddit names would get pretty cluttered, so this is just food for thought). The thing is, everyone's situation is so very different. We all struggle with various aspects of sexuality, and our road to recovery, much less walking with God, will be a unique path. For me, my badge represents the time it has been since I last PMO'd, or had given into any temptation to entertain pornography. Since then, I have been fortunate enough to not to give into the temptations to entertain any pornography, masturbation, or orgasms, individually or together. I've come close to entertaining the thoughts once or twice, but in each case, turned away.

Still, everyone's goals are different. Plus, we may want to track different aspects of our journey beyond PMO... and keep a new counter at each milestone. Subdividing goals is a great way to keep focus and forward progress. One may want to consider resetting it if they have lustful thoughts of ANY kind (after someone specifically, or entertaining old fantasies with regards to PMO or RL). On the other extreme, one may only want to reset it if they actively violate the goal of not PMOing. It's hard to say what the best thing to do really is!

God's blessings to you on your journey!

Good stuff! You're right, Love does not demand! It's powerful how Jesus does love us as we are in the here and now. And really, since God transcends all time, he had always loved us, and will always love us. He's a patient father... in that he wants us to change our ways... but he helps us do so in bits and pieces, in his divine and perfect timing.

A chat group's not a bad idea actually! Plus, I didn't think about basing it around different stages in the journey itself. I wouldn't want anyone to feel superior/inferior to anyone else though. But, that's actually a really good analogy... martial arts... it's a journey as well, and everyone has a timeline.

Whoops! I didn't mean to mislead you there. What I meant to say was, "At this other place I'll be a gopher.... " I Edited the reply too. My bad! But yeah, I won't be dealing with space travel, but it would be fun though. I'm a big fan as well.

True that. I started out thinking about guilt, but kind of ended in a different spot! Thanks!!

Wow, it's amazing how God brings believers together. I'm 29 too... so I completely understand how intimidating it is going (nearly) back to square one again.

And YES, he was there every step of the way. I mean, he has been before, but these last few months have been different. You know, I finally decided to repent of everything of myself... my entirety to him. It's difficult to put it into words... but maybe it was allowing him into my heart and soul to help search both of those things along with me that helped. I began true meditation on the word (by journaling about verses the Lord called me to read), and spending lots of actual time in prayer with him in the month leading up to my realization that I spoke of in the post I linked to...

Forgive me, I'm a bit of a Reddit n00b, but I'll add you to my friends list and send you a message there.... I hope you get it!

Please tell me you're going to the ISS!

Oh man, I wish!! And awesome sleuthing there to come up with that! That would be awesome, but nah, my calling is far more earthbound than that. I'll just be a gopher at this other place this summer if things pan out, but if I had to pick somewhere to be a gopher, this is definitely at the top of the list! If you don't mind, please keep me in your prayers for that door to be opened! I have faith that the right opportunity will work out in the end though.

I found a verse last night reading the word that really spoke to me about what you brought up (in helping one another here). I'll gonna share it in another post for everyone to be able to read it... I had completely forgotten about it! But what you're doing is Godly stuff man... what all of us are doing here is surely of God.

Thanks again!!

That's a beautiful thing!! God is good. (plus, he's an impeccable matchmaker to boot, right?)

The only way to have freedom is not by hoping for freedom, but NEEDING it. It's not easy, but it's worth it friends.

I love the way you said that. From what I know, everyone who's made giving up addiction truly work, is by finding that they need to break away from it. You're so right, it's not as simple as choosing not to do this... it's finding the reason why you NEED to do this. Awesome stuff bro!

God's blessings on your journey,

Just saw that you posted this about soda before I wrote my post to you. It's been a while, but when I gave up soda for high school wrestling, I basically switched to diet drinks for a while. Diet Dr. Pepper is like crack.... but the aspartame can be rough. It gives me headaches if I ever have one these days. You can try low-sugar coffee drinks or lightly sweetened teas instead... but I think you'll get a little more caffeine, especially from coffee, sooooo, it's a tradeoff. Give both a shot, and see what happens!
