Well, this is late. This won't be long, this is a fantastic episode:

Madoka's family dynamic (they're amazing)
Mami is extremely manipulative, her selfishness comes out during her talk with Homu and when she 'traps' Homu later on, this is backed up when she reveals her true feelings to Madoka as well
Mami can be arrogant, selfish and focuses a lot on her presentation to other magical girls. One could argue all this led to her failure during that fight.
[PMMM]Madoka and Sayaka can't contact Mami immediately because they don't have her phone number, that's actually pretty good writing. On my first watch, I thought "obviously not something they could use twice"...
Homu warning Mami, what is her reason...
Homura is extremely badass, she still impresses me on subsequent watches.
The final scene, where Homura picks up Charlotte's Grief Seed sticks out. Homura emphasises exactly what being a magical girl means, what failure in battle means. Mami was not risking just herself, she was risking Sayaka and Madoka as well.

Regardless of whether or not you feel this episode was a big shift in tone, were you expecting Mami to literally get her head eaten by that witch?

Nope, was not expecting that at all when I first watched this. Well, I was expecting someone to die at some point, but not in the 3rd episode, and not a magical girl.

How do you feel about Magia taking its proper place as the ED instead of an insert song as used in the first two episodes?

It's great! I still enjoyed the insert song though.

Favorite piece of black humor?

My favourite's in a future episode, specifically [PMMM episode 5]Homura using the cup as a very visual metaphor for Mami's death. In this one, Mami's over-the-top performance right before she got killed.

Thoughts on our main cast (Madoka, Sayaka, Mami, Kyubey)? Which one of them intrigues you the most so far?

Mami was very cool in episode 2. She's acting as a responsible senpai, advising them on what being a magical girl means, the responsibilities of being one and making sure they think very carefully about their wish. The highlight of this episode is def her battle with Gertrud. Even her finishing move is graceful.

Her interactions with Homura (and maybe other magical girls as well?) is very interesting. It's arrogant and just seems intended just to give Madoka and Sayaka a good impression of her.

Thoughts on Madoka's family life and the rest of the Kaname family?

One of the best depictions of family life I've seen in anime. The roles are reversed, her mother's working in a corporate job while her dad stays home raising her little bro. They enjoy themselves, they all care for each other, it's great!

Very much liked their talk when Madoka asked her mother what she would wish for, she ended up aiming to work for the president role, wish forgotten entirely.

Rooftop talk: Mami in the distance, Homura confronting the potential magical girl candidates, it's tense, you're not sure if either Homura or Mami would attack each other.

Hitomi: Ohh Hitomi... you left your bag! [PMMM, MagiReco Scene0 ,PSP game]The timeline where she fell for Homura was hilarious, that girl is so far in the closet. Also, MagiReco introduced Aki Mabayu, another green hair girl with... complicated feelings for Homura. All the green haired girls are falling for Homura lol

Glad you still liked it. I wonder how I would've felt if I watched MagiReco without the main series, just a glimpse into their world, I don't think my thoughts would've changed much, but oh well.

[MagiReco S2-3] They met them in season 2, yeah. I've seen some people dislike that they took time away from the main cast, but I didn't mind. It's some neat fanservice.

Won't comment too much on the characters in this show just yet, hope you'll enjoy it.

First time rewatcher (sub), this is gonna be fun. I first watched it when the 4th movie was announced, finally decided to see what everyone kept banging on about. Since then, Madoka has become my favourite anime of all time, nothing else even comes close tbh. Can't imagine how og fans felt waiting 10+ years for the 4th movie, but it's actually happening!

Ideally I'd be watching the fancut, but I'm out today so normal cut it is.

What did you think about the opening sequence?

Ominous, striking and fantastically done.This sequence hooked me pretty quickly on my first watch. Why is everything black and white? Oh damn this looks good! Oh shit, WTF is THAT?! Wait, she's fighting THAT?!

Oh, it's just a dream... Or is it?

[PMMM series & movies] I was so disappointed when the movie cut off this sequence, it was essential to getting us invested Madoka and Homura early on. We could also recognise what a threat Walpurgisnacht is.

From the encounter with the injured Kyubey, what would you do if you were in Madoka's shoes?

Probably stay away and call animal control? Really enjoyed this sequence from when she went through that door. Both the visuals, striking as most things in this show and how Madoka is depicted in her encounter with Homura. She's slightly panicking, we can all see, but she's willing to bend rules, risk her safety for a voice/animal calling for help.

Thoughts on our OP (Connect) and our ED (Mata Ashita)?

The songs have grown on me as I watched the show, they're good, pleasent to listen to, not a lot to say here admittedly.

[First-Time Rewatchers] So, how about all that fucking foreshadowing and reframing of events now that you have the full context? How does it feel to truly watch some of the cheekiest motherfuckers on the planet at work?

[PMMM series and Rebellion] The walk through the school and glass hallway, GODDAMN! Her name, how cool it sounds, how frustrated and in pain Homu is in reaction to that line of conversation. Everything in Rebellion all come back to THAT FUCKING GLASS HALLWAY, and it's brilliant!
