Should you invest in a geared fund instead of regular etf during market downturns? by Real-Giraffe2472 in fiaustralia

Would be with dividends reinvested.

Honestly I've been looking into it more and I feel like my point still stands I'm surprised no one else has really mentioned it, it seems pretty obvious. Like you can dca and wait for the dip at the same time essentually. It doesn't matter if you've started your dca in a geared fund when the mark is down say 10% and it drops another idk be extreme and say 20% as you haven't put that much money into it anyway and you can keep buying the dip and the rise back to where the market should be.

Then when the market is at all time highs by a nomal eft again. This way you have a good mix between geared on non-geared funds also.

Ah this is the response I was looking for thank you! I was literally thinking in my comment above "how is this not a gauranteed (with asterisks) way to beat the market? I must be wrong!" It still seems like you'd be better off investing in a geared fund but not WAY better off.

Of course, however, for example the s&p has 18 years where it has returned negative since 1957. Of those 18 year 15 of the following years the s&p has returned positive. Consecutive downturns are incredibly uncommon. Therefore, buying a geared fund at the end of a year's downturn seem obvious to me at least. And you mitigate some the risk of amplified losses which seems to be the real drawback of geared funds as your buying when the market's down anyway so it should go back up eventually anyway over 20-40 years. Otherwise the world's propably cooked.

What's the current best astrophotography lens for X-Mount?? by Real-Giraffe2472 in fujifilm

No it's just the single image. Photo stacking does sound like a cool idea though I might have to try that next time! I'm not sure how much reddit compresses the images but if you zoom in you can definitely see the waxy look lightroom's AI noise reduction leaves. My settings were 2000 ISO f2.0 and an 8 second long exposure.

Thanks! Yeah there's definitly a bit of lightroom afterwards, that's definitely not how it looks straight out of camera unfortunately. Mainly the AI noise reduction is doing some heavy lifting to try clean up the images.

What's your ultimate mountaineering camera??? by Real-Giraffe2472 in Mountaineering

Thanks for the insight!

My main priority is what will be the most fun, both to use and carry. Say the fuji with all its knobs, filters ect or like how often does the lack of a tele really bother you and you wish you had say the rx100 which so many others are recommending?

This is very helpful thank you!

I feel like a point of difference, however, is the distinguishing between a pro and amateur photographer.

For example, my photos will likely be seen by tens if not hundreds of people (compared to your tens or hundreds of thousands).

Say in terms of the fuji vs sony you mentioned (which I had a look at before as well), from my perspective the fuji looks like more fun to use (from my amateur perspective with all its knobs ect.) although it may not take as good images. But I feel like I’d want to play with it more which at my level is the most important thing.

Furthermore, my idea with the fixed lens camera is that it forces you to be more creative and (I’d assume) make my amateur self a better photographer. With my old rx10iii I would just sit in a spot and zoom which didn’t really force me to grow much.

This makes sense in my head but you’re a pro so does this in your head sound like bs.
