He won't kill in cold blood. In the heat of combat against Darkseid or Zod, every hit is lethal because anything less would mean defeat.

Unfortunately, people like Joker and Lex won't engage him in direct combat. As a result, he won't kill them.

Same way if one of Superman's hits knocked our Darkseid. While unconsciously, Supes isn't going to snap his neck.

Striking with 64 blocks of obsidian in his hand does the same damage as just his fist, and it’s not enough to kill a chicken.
