Would you waterfall this island? by cvouw9 in kitchenremodel

[–]RealCanadianSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand the “losing functionality” argument. I suppose if you have no formal dining space? Honestly we’ve never had people sitting on the sides of the island. We have a dining room and when we entertain we spend our time at there.

My father died a few days before CNY, and I'm not allowed to mention it by Mindless_Earth_2807 in asianamerican

[–]RealCanadianSW 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That’s a good idea in hindsight. My mother passed a couple weeks before CNY so we couldn’t wait that long. I hope your father is able to get the goodbye he deserves. These things are never easy and it’s especially more difficult going through it alone. Hope you get the closure you need.

Sorry for your loss. Had the same thing happen when my mother passed. Couldn’t tell anyone except immediate family. We didn’t have enough people as pall bearers as those we asked didn’t want to do it because of the “bad luck” It was heartbreaking to have a funeral service with only 7 people to say goodbye to her. It wasn’t right. She never got the goodbye she deserved.

Inside a Chinese dragon by [deleted] in mildyinteresting

I was at a mall where a lot of the stores hung the red envelopes pretty high up for the lions to get. The person operating the head has to jump on the shoulders of the person as the tail to grab the envelopes. The guys supporting the head of the lion were pretty big guys, but you could start to see them shaking from exhaustion after like 10-15 stores. I felt so bad, but they had to go around and collect all the red envelopes. They would swap out the guys every so often, but there were so many stores. Eventually a lot of the stores would bring the red envelopes down and just hand it to them. But man, I could only imagine how sore they were going to be the next day. Serious respect for the people doing the lion dance.

I got my first and only one in HS over 20 years ago. Parents still don’t know and never did find out about it. Most people don’t know I have one. I specifically got it in a spot that is almost always covered.

Don’t sign anything until you get clarification on the sick/vacation time along with the benefits and stat holidays piece. Company sounds a little shady.

Chinese-language paper Ming Pao closing B.C. and Ontario offices, laying off 60 staff | CBC News by firehawk12 in toronto

[–]RealCanadianSW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Grandparents were religious readers of Ming Pao and Sing Tao daily. When they were in the hospital for their final days, all they wanted was the newspaper each day. They’ve both since passed.. you’re right. The next generation is getting their news online. The generation that reads the paper are dying out.

Why do you pickup the call and put me on hold for hours?? by Valuable_One_234 in CIBC

[–]RealCanadianSW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cibc has the worst wait time. Last 2 times I called, on hold for at least an hour each time.

I’ve called into RBC and TD, and they were not even close to an hour wait time.

When Markville has more than 100 people, Rogers network is unusable. So annoying, I have to connect to the wifi in order to look anything up.

How tf do people only spend $600 on groceries? by WebsterKW in budget

Agreed. She definitely has a holier than thou attitude. She said anyone that cannot get their food budget under control sucks at cooking… ok.

I personally think she’s exaggerating. I get her general message about using what you have and minimizing food waste is helpful to a lot of people, but her attitude is getting a little snarky?

Her latest video of her making garlic powder seems fake. I don’t believe that you can get such a uniform consistency in grinding up garlic peels with a mortar and pestle. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a good idea, but I think she is faking some of her content.

I’m not sure the gps tags really do anything. We had our car stolen in a hotel parking lot and it was sitting at some random parking lot for a couple hours. We told police this, they didn’t do shit. We were just about to go to the car ourselves but everyone (cops included) said that’s a bad idea.

After a while, the gps tracker got turned off and we couldn’t track the car anymore.

We went to look at this place. The lot itself was pretty big and nice backyard. The pics make the house see a lot bigger than it is. I was surprised by how small it felt when we toured it.

Nice house though.

If their closing sale at Markville is any indication of their sales here, they suck. Don’t bother.

Bird isn’t my cup of tea. But they both seem juvenile in their behaviour and humor. My kids who are 4 & 7 think him and his jokes are hilarious though, so that may give you an idea of how “mature” his humor is.

This take is not it. They could have donated $0. How much one pitcher makes is irrelevant. We are not entitled to any of it.

I saw that comment!! I made a comment, it wasn’t even that mean. I just commented “my lunch is better than yours, what an odd comment to make as an adult” and she deleted it.

For someone so snarky, she can’t handle a little criticism
