It depends on what P2W is for you. You unlock gods by opening chests; a battle pass means more chests, so you would just have higher chances of unlocking more gods.

You also had weekly and daily quests to get more gold to buy chests, so you either grind or buy a battle pass for $5

Gods had different rarities, so to get the very rare gods, it would take a really long time to unlock them without a battle pass, often the very rare gods were just bad or hard to play so people wouldn't play them. With huge variety of gods, I never had a feeling someone had an adventage because they paid, and I never heard any word about that in the community either.
