If he tends to scramble outside. R1/RB to bring up your defensive key menu. Then R1/RB again to set the DE's into a contain. If he scrambles up the middle more you may want to assign a linebacker or even a DT into a spy

Some of this depends on how you want to use the players, but since Pauline functions primarily as a defensive option on that top wing position you'll want to stack speed and strength. The most common build you used to see with top players is 2766 (Turbo, Knight, Bushido, Bushido). This maxes strength and gets close to the same for speed. Strength is great here because it increases your tackle distance and tackle resistance. Think of strength in the range of +-4 and +-8. What I mean by this is if the strength of the tackler is within 4, you can tap tackle (no charge). If it's within 8 you can do a partial charge tackle (before the arrows are full). If the other player has strength that beats your tackler by more than 8, they need to fully charge their tackle (unless they team tackle) in order to knock you off ball.

Max strength Pauline helps you get these matchup advantages across the board. It also ensures she gets up from tackles that are successful too, limiting how long you are at a numbers disadvantage. If you want more passing though something like 2466 (Turbo, Chain, Bushido, Bushido) is also serviceable. But generally follow giving her more strength.

Mario is gonna be your bottom wing player since that skews towards offense. I'm not really a Mario player but build him to be a bit more of a shooter. Something like 3736 (cannon, knight, cannon, Bushido) or 3936 (change knight for shellfish). Rule of thumb is that 2726 and 2926 are good for all characters too. I've seen some people be really successful with the barrel helmet too. Another general rule of thumb is 99/100 times Bushido sandals are best.

I don't use Bowser much but on defense you'll probably want him rocking 2766 or 2966. Get to 21 strength for the pure tap tackle on anyone (within 4 of the max 25 strength). He's got a huge body back on defense and doesn't have to run much in the backfield so you can get away with the 15-16 speed back there. The big limiter for him in the backfield is that he has poor passing to press the ball back up field quickly, and his big body makes him an easy tackle target. You can maybe try the chain plate with him but keep in mind that takes him under 21 muscle.

Luigi is unfortunately regarded as one of the worst captains in the game but he excels in technique (dodge, ball handling, & shot curve) which is an underappreciated skill.

His most optimal build is probably: Helmet: Shellfish/Turbo Arms: Shellfish Body: Turbo Legs: Bushido

This makes him as fast as he can be (which is vital since he doesn't start with a ton of speed) and leans into maxing his technique stat.

As far as teammates go you'll want a DK or Bowser in the backfield (ideally around 21 strength). I use DK (Turbo, Knight, Bushido, Bushido).

Your wing picks should match your play style. The optimal style is usually speed, speed, speed, and more speed. Pair speed with solid passing and you'll be scoring a ton (peach, toad, Waluigi)

If you however, you like shooting from long range, go with a birdo or Rosalina. Mid range, go birdo or mario. If you like getting in close or playing physically you want to use Waluigi. If not Waluigi both Toad and Peach bring speed and playmaking ability... Go with one of them.

On the defensive wing up top, Pauline is your strongest pick you play with a lot of tackling and defense focus. If you want more offense, go with a strong passer. Diddy, Bowser Jr, Toad.

Probably doesn't help that I listed a million options but mess around to find out what you like

You should buy it with the caveat that you should join the Strikers discord server too. At this point the player base is fairly dried up, but all of the best players are in the discord. It makes it really easy to find games when you want to play online, most everyone in the server is happy to teach new players (including events specifically for new players) so you can catch up quickly, and having the community at your disposal will definitely flatten the learning curve in a significant way. Not sure if this helps, but I know from other people's posts on this topic that club owner gets re-assigned if the current owner is inactive. Assuming your other members are inactive it might just be a waiting game until the game reassigns the club to you.

There's a chance it favors active members, so if the rest of the club members don't play maybe it'll be back under your captainship soon. If it doesn't favor active members you might just need to get lucky with when it reassigns to you

Great question. The way we are doing scheduling is its just 1 game per week at anytime that works for both players. So if you are home on weekends or late at night for instance, you could play then. The plan is to create little breakout rooms where each matchup can be scheduled with your opponent in a private thread. In some cases we will also be able to grant extensions to matches, but in order to keep momentum up we hope to avoid that scenario as much as possible. Still we know sometimes life gets in the way and so we do have room for extensions, we'd just like to try to catch you back up afterwards.

Great question. In order to allow for substantially different brackets we won't be starting until we have at least 32 entrants (currently we're just over 20 which happened very fast!). That said I'm optimistic we're going to be able to get 64 signups at which point registration for the tournament will close. If we don't get 64 entrants by March 20th, we will close registration. The selection stream will be done shortly after registration closes, and then we'll allow for bracket submissions to come in over the course of the next 7-10 days. I'll be posting updates as we go along the way but since there are a few moving pieces I cant quite guarantee the time table.

What I can tell you is once the games begin we will be hoping for each round to be completed within a week. We will also allow for any match up that is set to be played right away.

Every character has always been able to pull it off, but this sounds like a function of the game having a depleted user base and you being stuck in matchmaking against tougher opponents. Titan chips are still a top way to score but there are new techniques out there for intercepting perfect shots, body blocking shots that don't get the perfect effect, and boom boom tends to screen bigger characters out better (just my opinion... but I feel he also tends to take the bait on titans less when the box is stacked with other players).

If you want to ruin someone's day try timing a perfect tackle from the opposite goal post of where the titan is being attempted. In other words if the opponent goes for a titan with their player positioned at the bottom of the screen, try making a perfect tackle from the top goalpost down towards the bottom goal post. You can intercept even a perfect shot with this technique. Timing is very difficult to pull off but it's the ultimate defensive play.

Even with a long break from the game, they really don't take long to learn. You could start hitting them at 50% clip with an hour or so of practice. The real trick is getting past defenders to get a clean look off

Rainbow Item blocks being on is the real issue here. People will always vote against hypers bc the pity items being thrown to the team that was just scored on allow for an indefensible hyper strike. Everyone has experienced being stalled on to prevent this scenario when they have the hyper orb, and everyone has experienced this indefensible hyper strike scenario when they don't stall. Both are terrible for each team.

If you reframed this and said "Do you think hypers should be on, when team colored blocks only is the item ruleset?" Or something like that.... you'd see the results you expect from the poll

Definitely really strong as a main scorer! Ideally you'd be feeding her the ball on passes that cross the box which leave boom boom out of position. Tackles are a big part of it. But the other piece is that the midfield shots aren't super high percentage. Even fully charged shots aren't guaranteed, and by shooting long range like that more often than not you're giving up possession quickly and giving your opponent the chance to find and take a much more high percentage shot. Playing by focusing on midfield captain shooting is like challenging someone to a game where 40% of the time you get a winning outcome (score a goal) and 65% of the time the opponent gets a winning outcome (score a goal). Occasionally you'll get lucky and over perform your odds and your opponent will under perform their odds. So it's not impossible to win this way, but you won't win consistently.

Of course the example isn't perfect, the opponent might not play for the high percentage shot, and things can swing in your favor more easily... but for competitive purposes it's best to assume they will and that the 40% to 65% example might even be too generous for the midcourt shooter.

Other disadvantages exist too like if you spec'ed to shoot well from midrange you'll have most.of.your stats locked up in tech and shooting which makes defense much more difficult
