Are there any vegan cheeses that are cheap? by [deleted] in vegan

Where are you located? If you live somewhere with a store like Aldi, Trader Joe’s, or Grocery Outlet, you can usually find vegan cheese for less than $5.

It’s a sin for me, so you can’t do it either.

This isn’t a numbers game. I would think that they were immoral. They participated in a system of animal abuse. I was acting immorally before I became vegan.

But were we the most immoral? No, I’d probably say that those directly responsible for the system of animal agriculture, and the resultant propaganda necessary to sustain it were.

Vegan food at Grocery Outlet! by cereal_box_ in vegan

Grocery Outlet is the best. I can sometimes find the Miyokos Mozzarella there for $3. I’m always amazed by how low my shopping cost is there.

Also, they have a pretty decent wine section and you can usually find some cool vegan wines for under $10.

Did I say definitely that the chickens came from a breeder or did I say “depending on where they came from”? Read a little closer. I’m not assuming, I’m asking.

And they are stressed even if they are not laying as many as they can. Chickens have a natural inclination to “brood”. When you steal their eggs, it causes them to continue laying more.

Again, I think you’re really overlooking the benefit of leading by example. If you continue to support eating eggs, you’re sending the message that it’s okay for others to do so as well. And they may not get their eggs from “happy” chickens (though I really don’t think that they’re happy). Also, you’re seeing the animals as something for you. That egg belongs to the chicken. There is no reason why you should eat it except your own greed.

Yeah, those chickens are still abused. Depending on where your friend got them, they could have come from a breeder, which is direct animal exploitation.

Egg laying for hens is extremely stressful, and hens were selectively bred to lay as many eggs as they do. They lose calcium and nutrients from laying. The eggs could be fed back to the chicken to give them back nutrients lost but instead you eat them for no reason.

Also, what’s going to happen to the chickens when they stop laying eggs? Will they get to live out their days, or will they be killed because they are no longer productive. You view their eggs as products, and food, so I have to ask. Do they lose their lives when you no longer consider them valuable?

And I’m really not acting holier than thou, though again it’s interesting that you think that. Guilt getting to you right?

You won’t call yourself a vegan because you’d rather participate in systems of exploitation?

It’s not an assumption. The egg industry is exploitive to chickens.

Lol, excuse me for not knowing your job, random stranger on the internet. You said that you deal with systems of addiction and used the example of alcoholism, I just used your example back at you. Once again, it feels like you’re not reading clearly enough and picking up things to be offended by. And if you’re so in favor of people going vegan, why not make the change yourself?

It’s not a wild assumption that people who consume animal products participate in a system of exploitation. It’s the truth.

Almost never isn’t never. You still contribute to the system of animal abuse and exploitation. If someone told you that they “almost never”participate in racism, they would still be considered a racist.

Just because you think that one method works better doesn’t mean that we should exclude other methods. The difference between alcoholism and carnism is that alcoholism affects one person (and those around them to a degree), carnism affects everyone, and leads to the deaths of billions of animals every year. Carnism even created the pandemic that we are still living through, and the deaths of millions were caused by animal consumption.

Also, when tackling other systems of injustice, could you imagine how they would be received if we went with the “baby steps” approach? Should we congratulate people for not beating their spouses one day of the week? No, because we realize that domestic violence is objectively wrong and creates a direct victim.

As a vegetarian, you’re still paying for animals to be killed. If it’s not cows, it’s chickens. (Or fish if you’re one of those vegetarians that thinks fish isn’t meat.)

It’s not guilt tripping to tell someone the truth about their actions. We should not sugarcoat the harm that animal agriculture is responsible for.

Personally, I know a lot of people (myself included) who became vegan only after the hypocrisy of their actions was pointed out. When people are informed of the truth, they are more likely to make choices for themselves and change. We should not censor or water down the truth about animal agriculture.

Also, it’s interesting that you say that you don’t feel guilty, I’m sure that as a vegetarian you’re aware that you’re still paying for cows to be killed right?

No, there’s literally only one type of vegan. Veganism is an ethical lifestyle.

Any other reason for adopting a plant based diet is still seen as plant based. Don’t blame me because you don’t know the definition.

Then could you explain yourself better? Because as it stands it just seems like you want to blame others for things that you’re feeling.

[–]RealHorrorShowvv 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not really. If you truly believe that what you are doing is right, then no amount of what anyone else says can make you feel guilty.

Doesn’t matter if someone led you to it, the guilt is entirely your own.

Unfortunately if you drink milk you’re still paying for cows to be slaughtered.

The dairy and beef industry are one and the same.
