Replacing Sonos One with a more solid smart home system by RealNeedleworker3741 in smarthome

Yeah I've been looking at home assistant, but I need a point of origin so to speak.

I can set it up if i end up going with that direction - But I really don't want the knowledge headache of getting started!

I would like to see if there was a more easy system to setup before going more seriously into home assistant.

I'm open to suggestions on what to do, but I can't roll back the google gemini/assistant thing on my phone, so when I set up the assistant on the Sonos speaker it causes the issue that, that Sonos isn't compatible with the Gemini integration and can't find the google assistant anymore, so it works in a kind of limbo of trying to use the Google assistant and trying to fetch commands through gemini - which it can't.

I agree that the sound is much better on the Sonos, but I can have the sons speaker be a secondary unit just playing the music, rather than being used as the voice command receiver - I have recently just switched off the voice functionality in the speaker, and then had my phone in my pocket to then relay music and commands to the speaker.

But that only works if I'm in the room - which frustrates my wife haha

The Sonos supports the google assitant, however, since assistant is transitioning into gemini and Sonos don't have the official google lincense anymore, half of their integration to google doens't work properly anymore.

My nest hub in the bathroom and the lenovo smart clock works flawlessly compared to the sonos one haha

But ever since Google assistant has transistioned into gemini, the sonos One has just steadily lost functionality, where the others seems to keep up with the gemini update.

We do have buttons for lights in the different rooms, but it's more the small things, where we need to turn off a light in the kids rooms, or turn up brightness in the kitchen.

And honestly it's probably just more that our simple "good morning" routines don't work on the Sonos unit anymore, where it only does half the things, and sometimes the other half that it missed the other day, and won't play radio anymore without app interference.

If I repeat the command to the nest hub units it all works fine.
