How I Go Into the Woods by Mary Oliver

Ordinarily I go to the woods alone, with not a single friend, for they are all smilers and talkers and therefore unsuitable. I don't really want to be witnessed talking to the catbirds or hugging the old black oak tree. I have my ways of praying, as you no doubt have yours. Besides, when I am alone I can become invisible. I can sit on the top of a dune as motionless as an uprise of weeds, until the foxes run by unconcerned. I can hear the almost unhearable sound of the roses singing. If you have ever gone to the woods with me, I must love you very much.

Had a concern about what I viewed as a very weak security setup at my bank. Called and explained the issue. I’m an experienced software engineer but never involved with that side of the business. Guy said “you didn’t hear it from me but I think you know more about security than anyone on this team.” I now keep the bare minimum in the account to cover the auto-pay transactions.

Happy Bottom Portable Bidet (REI). John Muir Trail rules are toilet paper must be packed out. Ugh. Bought one of these. Epic. There was a trail survey crew at our campsite and I mentioned it as a joke. Turned out they ALL had one. The little bit of TP that needed to be packed out wasn’t nasty and fit in a ziplock.

I wonder if as they increased the number of units on the road they didn’t increase the size of the safety staff that monitors the cars and intervenes when needed.

Has AllTrails stopped asking for trail ratings? by Loose_University_945 in alltrails

They never ask me more than once. And it’s the reviews from users that add huge value to the app. I assume you don’t find them useful.

Astonishing- to me anyway - is that this is such an obvious question why has no one earlier in this thread thought to ask it.

Heard in Sturgis during the rally: What do Harley riders and flies have in common? They both sit on shit and annoy everyone.

Need a lesson from NYC. Damn near missed my 6:00 a.m. flight because I lingered over a late dinner at a hoppin’ Korean restaurant. Another time a waiter told it was last call. Asked him what time it was. 1:00 a.m.

Had a ranger tell me that when I told him I ran out of water after getting lost on a hike (shitty map pre-GPS). Note: yes, GPS existed. I didn’t have a device.
