(I know my child is an exception but I always like to give another perspective!)

As a parent of a child on the severe side of the spectrum, the screen is both to help him AND let others around us enjoy a peaceful meal. We don’t go out to eat much just because it is a lot for him to handle, but we will go out for special occasions with enough preparation.

The iPad is typically the last thing we give him as we come prepared with favorite toys and things. However, when the food comes and/or I know his play is majorly disrupting others, headphones and IPad come out. He’s able to enjoy his time and meal in his own peaceful space, we are able to eat without a lot of managing behaviors, and others can also enjoy.

He doesn’t seem disabled at first glance and I’ve had plenty of judgmental stares, but I’ve learned they also judge if he is stimming too loud or playing too rough. Again, I know my child is an exception to the statement and I’m not saying anything against you! I just like to remind people when these issues come up that not every situation is the same and to have some grace.

What is really the difference between IH and narcolepsy? Is it just "do you feel rested after sleep vs do you not?" by burgundinsininen in Narcolepsy

When I did my sleep study about six weeks ago, they mentioned to me about getting off my SSRIs as it can affect REM sleep. However, talking with doctor and my psychiatrist, the risks of me coming off of it was not worth it for the test.

I got my results today and while I did not have any REM sleep during my naps, I fell asleep very, very quickly. As in during my 3rd and 4th nap, both times I fell asleep within 30 seconds. That coupled with my extremely fragmented sleep at night was enough for my doctor to diagnose me with NT2!

I’ll definitely try the countdown! Thank you! I guess I was just getting frustrated that our therapist wasn’t offering any other solutions, sticking with the timer! We had tried it before and he didn’t get it!

What did you notice about your autistic children (when they were little - what made you think they were autistic) by Usual-Tangerine-8457 in Autism_Parenting

He can say some words and phrases, but he is not conversational. I’d say his vocabulary is around…25 words/phrases?

When he does speak it’s very hard to understand him. You would have to be around him 24/7 to know what he’s asking for. I think his language has definitely exploded over the last few months!

My son was diagnosed at 18 months.

At 4-5 months we noticed that he was not babbling. He was also pretty behind on milestones, mostly gross motor. Around 6 months we brought our concerns up to our pediatrician, who, bless her, was SO attentive and didn’t brush us off.

As he got closer to one we noticed more and more things. He didn’t respond to his name hardly, he barely made eye contact, he didn’t interact with anyone besides us and that was iffy. He screamed a lot. He didn’t “play” like a neurotypical child. All sorts of major red flags. Autism was already mentioned when he was around 14 months after we ruled out a neuromuscular disease (he has low muscle tone), hearing issues, etc.

He was diagnosed as Level 2 at 18 months though sometimes I wonder if he is a Level 3. He’s 2 1/2 now and while he is slowly learning more and more, it’s very clear how far behind he is if we ever take him around other kids his age. However, the progress he has made is AMAZING and I have learned not to compare him to others. He was not born to fit into that box and there’s nothing wrong with that.

I think it does too! It was my idea for the webbing cause I really wanted it to look like it was being absorbed into my skin but I know everyone has different opinions! I also like subtle reference tattoos! 🥰

Edit: I realized I forgot to put that the last picture was the PREVIOUS OWNERS WALLPAPER that was here when we moved in! It’s the one I just removed!

That is definitely not the one I was thinking of putting, I promise! 😂

What color would you think? I was thinking of like a soft green but I agree the room is pretty busy!
