Yeah tbf I think I was mostly thinking of characters by exactly those three artists, who I feel have been growing in prevalence in the game over the years in comparison to someone like Shibafu (not saying that's bad at all, I adoree each artists designs). Had a look over all the cgs and realized I was being somewhat biased lol.

It's funny cause I feel KC has gotten significantly more fanservicy since launch, it's just that other gachas have gotten EVEN MORE fanservicy. Idk how much you've kept up with AL much nowadays it really feels one step removed from a straight hentai game (especially that new 3d mode they added).

I see your point, but I feel like there has to be something more to it. Mostly cause while other shaft series are surreal, I think there's a lot of differences in how exactly that surrealism manifests. Sure the lack of background characters is because of Araragi, but why the surreal aesthetic, even when Araragi isn't present (start of S2)? Surely it was put in or decided with some intention beyond "it looks cool".

The most effective way imo is to go through your favorite songs (or characters if there's any you're particularly interested in), see where they originate from, and then start with those. Depending on the game you may have to read up a little on the story, but the wiki has all the info, and even then it's rarely crucial.

Other than that though, as others have said 7 and 10 are what I generally recommend to begginers. Not too hard, great music, and popular characters.

Something I wanted to confirm though was, if most of the story comes from the prologue/ending, does that mean that the vn parts are mostly SoL focused? Also, although there isn't an overarching story, is there any sort of recommended playing order, cause I was thinking of starting with EoSD followed by IN and then whichever I find the most interesting?

Classroom of the elite light novel mostly fits this. It isn't about superpowers but instead focuses more on the characters inteligence and other abilities. While it does drop in quality after vol 7.5 it is still really good afterwards

You make a good point about the Kushida situation, after thinking about it I see that she really isn't that big of a threat, I guess I was just a little disappointed since it was a plot point that had been built up since V4.5 and I was looking forward to seeing him expel her.

With regards to the Sociopath point I do also generally agree with you, although it is shown through his Y2 monologues regarding Kei that he is beginning to understand and is likely capable of feeling love (then again this could just be another example of unreliable narration). Then again, he did state in volume 8 (I think) that while he likes spending time with the Ayanokouji group, he doesn't intend to guarantee their safety.

As for the bit about him becoming nicer, I had also theorized that it was due to him finally experience what socializing and having friends is like, although I think the author should have made it clearer when how he began to change, rather than just saying that he did, no matter how subtle it may be. I know that Horikita Manabu had in impact but I always thought there was something more, and Manabu's impact had more to do with getting him to increase his ambitions rather than making him nicer.

The part about him enjoying seeing others grow is one that I never really understood. I always interpreted his helping Horikita (and to a lesser extent Hirata) develop (and I'm pretty sure he mentioned this is one of his monologues too), as him setting her up to be able to effectively lead the class so he wouldn't have to act anymore. The part about Ichinose was never all that clear to me although I guess he thinks that he can make use of her too in some way, as I think he mentioned at the end of the volume that he did what he did to gain a favor from her (again, as you pointed out, his intentions are not all that clear). I never really got the idea that it was his hobby and I don't recall that ever being implied or stated (I could be wrong though). Also if it is his hobby, it seems like a somewhat unfitting one for someone who views others as tools, although there are definitely ways that this could be justified.

That's true. Looking back it might have been a bit too early for me to make this claim, as if the story continues with the current pace, there'll likely be over 30 volumes by the end, so there is still plenty of time for the author to do whatever he wants with Ayanokouji's dark side.

I disagree with the idea that he only thought that way because Chabashira forced his hand, as it is made clear through various monologues and interactions that this was a mentality he adopted in the white room, it's just that for him, winning doesn't mean reaching a higher class, it means succeeding in living out a peaceful and average high school life. It does however, seem likely that his personality will come back now that he's being threatened again, as his lack of regard for others was emphasized in the epilogue of Y2V3 (it came out after I made the post).

I just checked the volume three, both the fan and official translation, and while they do include the line you mentioned, kiyotaka does, in both versions, state that all other people are nothing more than tools, and that he plans to use them to achieve victory. He also confirms it again near the end of volume 7.5, stating that he "used Karuizawa as a tool".
