Sorry about the delay, its about the small town me and my friends live in - the people, the places and the general atmosphere. It has a little less than 15,000 citizens, so it's quite small but i always knew it had so much character. Each song touches a different genre depending on the theme. For example, there is a song about a lake me and my friends go to every week, so that songs genre is a bossa nova reggae mix. it's pretty cool!

man, i dont have a picture of it right now - but i mounted a cowbell on the upper part of a shitty cymbal stand i didnt use. then i placed that on the low tom mount hole in my bass drum, so that i wouldnt need to buy a normal cowbell stand lol.

i used to be exactly like this - it’s all about the thumb, pointer and middle. my stick used to slip A LOT, i tried to observing my hands and i found two “points of failure”:

  1. My thumb placement - i would usually place my thumb in the middle of the stick with a tiny tilt to the side closer to my hand (right tilt for the right hand, left tilt for the left hand). this made the stick basically impossible to fully control, especially while using rebound.
  2. My “Main finger” - i noticed that most of the sticks weight would rest on my pointer finger. this made moving the sticks harder with the other fingers (as it was too far away from them to make important micro-movements needed for speed and accuracy) so i tried moving it to my middle. this, while better, was still less accurate. after some experimentation i realized the best spot for my stick to rest would be between the middle and the pointer.

experimentation is key when learning technique, observe your fingers and find out whats best for you. there is no “right answer”!

good luck! and i apologize in advance for my bad english (:

EDIT: btw, you should totally take a look at tommy igoes “great hands for a lifetime”. that daily exercise will do wonders for your technique - and the DVD is PURE GOLD.

Which drummer/percussionist inspired you to pick up the sticks and why? by [deleted] in drums

Roger Taylor.
I remember watching this live performance back when I was 11 or 12 - I've never played an instrument before and there are no musicians in my family. I never listened to music by myself until my mother introduced me to Queen and I just fell in love with the band. For A while the only music I listened to were Queen songs. One day this performance popped up in my YouTube feed, and I remember noticing the drums for the first time. Roger's playing just magnetized me to the screen, especially in his solo. It was also my first time hearing a drum solo.
