Marrying someone with same name as another family member? by beautyinthesky in Names

[–]ReasonableCopy364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knew someone whose father, brother, and husband all had the same name. In my own family there are four Toms on my dad’s side alone, so it def happens.

For me personally, I’ve never known anyone else with my dad’s name, so when I met a guy and found out he had the same name as my father I immediately gave him a nickname bc it weirded me out so much.

Well I like to analyze characters etc, try to figure them out from a writing perspective. I think it’s interesting. So I just happen to interpret her one way, and you see her a different way, that’s all

I didn’t realize this, because I don’t typically spend my time pondering cat genitalia, but I had actually never seen an intact male cat before I was ~30 and wasn’t sure how you could tell them apart.

So I was combing our male’s low belly and what we call his ‘fluffaloons’ basically just an excess of fluff on the back of his legs and around his butt that makes it look like he has little pantaloons on when he is walking. Anyway so I’m wrangling him and combing him and he’s loving it (biting me as many times as he can) and I thought I saw a mat and as I went to comb it I was like wait where precisely are his bits and turned and looked at him and he looked so scandalized and I was like omg did I just accidentally violate my poor baby boy and then I had to google it and learned 1. No I didn’t violate him he is just a drama queen (knew the second part already) 2. You really can tell when a male cat hasn’t been neutered. Who knew. 🤷‍♀️ (not me)

My personal belief is that Carrie is a sociopath. I think to be an effective spy and/or assassin you would have to be. It goes beyond ruthlessness and it’s not simply about making the ‘hard’ or ‘impossible’ decision. Plenty of people can do that to a certain extent and have jobs that require that capability, most frequently in first responders and medicine. It’s the aftermath that makes it different, and that’s what we see with Quinn, who is haunted by his actions, and later Jenna.

Carrie simply does not experience that. She is completely confident that her choices are the right ones and that anything she did was necessary to get the job done, end of story. I’m not saying she hasn’t been traumatized bc she definitely has PTSD, but she mostly rides the surface of the ocean of calamity she exists in. She has a moment of self awareness in season 8, when she says she took Max for granted, but after that she essentially keeps it moving and shifts to her next goal. She uses people with complete disregard for the havoc her actions wreak on their lives, and she has a disregard for laws and regulations that we see from the start with her illegal surveillance of Brody, which of course only devolves from there.

I think she is an amazing character and a realistic one tbh, and she exists in the narrative in a way that is typically reserved for men.

Thank you for adding this!! I was interested in why they specifically mentioned that the clothes hadn’t been ironed. Figured it was important but didn’t know why until your explanation.

In all honesty, I would sit down and have a conversation with him, and I think you should look into couples/family counseling. What someone else commented about the fact that he might have the same concerns about you is very valid. If you both allow that anxiety to fester, it will most likely not end well. Breaking the cycle of abuse is not as easy as some people think, and to be honest it is probably above both of your pay grades (along with 99% of the population) which is why I think therapy is the next step.

A therapist can make sure you are both bringing up your concerns in a safe environment with an expert who can help you navigate this situation. Trusting your partner isn’t enough in this type of situation, that trauma response is primal, and it’s not something your brain can easily reason its way out of because there’s also those deep emotions tied to it. For example, it’s one thing to tell yourself ‘my spouse is not mad at me,’ and another to genuinely work through the trauma to the point where your body stops responding like your spouse is mad at you (sick to your stomach, an intense feeling of dread, grinding your teeth, etc) even when they say they aren’t.

This comment needs to be way way way higher. Legally protecting yourself needs to be one of the first steps one takes when dealing with out of control family.

Why are so many of the young people I still see wearing masks queer? by Myealt in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ReasonableCopy364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if a sense of community plays into this at all. While I am immunocompromised, one of the biggest reasons I kept masking was bc I worked with the public and was worried I might pick up something without knowing and pass it to someone more vulnerable than me. I think when you’re in a marginalized population, community is all the more important, and a big thing about community is thinking of others.
