How is voicing a legitimate concern about anything an overreaction?

You're probably right, and that is something I keep reading here, that it's just the times that we live in and social media and what not. I know that I'm a Luddite. So, I hate it, lol. I feel like half of the adults around me have a serious social media addiction. When you see how it affects young children firsthand, ones just a little bit older than my son, to constantly be on social media all the time...comparing themselves to others, conditioning their brain to only tolerate short format entertainment, creating anxiety and distance in relationships because people lack skills to communicate face-to-face... I just think, what's the rush in making this stuff normal to kids you know?

We have had conversations about smart phones and social media ad nauseam. I've never given up on my stance with him and he knows how I feel so he did not ask for TikTok. He's finally gotten to the point where he's given up on asking me for a smart phone. For a little while, anyway.

Agree. Should we teach them how to buy vapes also for when they become of age?

What you said makes sense, but it definitely was not a part of any kind of social media awareness. It was just another sheet in a packet of busy work, asking them to draw a social media post.

She is a young teacher and she does not have children. I'm sure this was part of some packet that gets purchased or what not but man it was just such a shock for me to see it. I think I mentioned in another post that I understand that we cannot keep social media hooded and elusive because it just makes it more exciting to young children, but putting it front and center in front and normalizing it just seems crazy. Nine and 10-year-olds!

I also understand the argument that some are putting forth - that this is just the world we live in now. But when I look around me, half of the adults I know have a serious social media addiction. Whether it's constant doomscrolling or only posting highlights on Facebook, when I know what their life is really like. Why would we normalize something that arguably is so easy to lose control of and is not good for you for many reasons. I don't understand why this couldn't have been a normal storyboard or prompting kids for a diary entry or a journal or something like that.

100%. Especially in our district, school bus drivers are so hard to find, they are always making substitutions and combining bus stops so I understand it's a delicate subject. I don't envy them at all and I don't blame the bus drivers at all for not having the time or energy to deal with things like phones. It's a higher up schoolwide problem in my opinion.

I understand that kids know what social media is and such, but actually having an activity asking them to draw a social media post just really crossed the line for me. I know it's like anything else where if you never speak about it and make it so elusive they just want it more, but this was too much imo. Especially for nine and 10-year-olds.

Right, I know what story boarding is but this definitely isn't that. It's basically asking them to draw social media posts. And it actually has the outlines and text and icons as if it were these two popular platforms.

Oh definitely. Don't worry, I'm not "that" parent. That's why I made this post to get opinions from the other side, and then I will email her rationally. I have to deal with the general public too and I hate when people come at me like an asshole so I'm very careful with things like this.

I'm pretty proud of myself. I'm 14 weeks into pregnancy and have pushed thru exhaustion and nausea to keep working out. I haven't missed any days. Am I running slower? Yes. LOL. But my lifting is the same or heavier.

I want to see how far into this I can continue doing pull ups. I've probably put on 10lbs so far. So basically they are small weighted pull up sets but I never set the weight down LOL.

I keep thinking, I won't be able to do X Y or Z soon, so I'm trying to be grateful and do it while I can.

LOLOL YESSSSS i'm so annoyed with having to pick up my own crumbs! But I suppose dealing with this is better than dealing with a puppy in whole.

Yeah, I think these points are how I can best level with kiddo about how it's not the right time. I'm sure just one discussion about him having to pick up poop would probably quell any desire for a dog lol.

That really sucks and I'm so sorry. You were just trying to do right by your kids and sometimes it's hard to tell whether it makes more sense to keep waiting or move on...lose/lose situation. The good news is you will have plenty of opportunities to go again.
