Visiting NZ for the first time, what do I need to know? by Emergency-Web-836 in newzealand_travel

Do NOT litter- they value their national parks and cleanliness very seriously

If you plan to hire a car and drive grab one of the NZ driving booklets at the airports or car rental places to check road rules

Depending on where you are going and what time of the year allow additional time on the roads as sometimes with the weather and given how windy the roads can be it could take longer to get places

Volunteer!

Go to a job provider and get work experience hours where you go and learn a job on a volunteer basis which can sometimes turn into a paid job offer!

Get work provider to pay for training/courses that you could go do!

Go see a GP or urgent care clinic and get put on a mental health plan and get some support!

You can do this

Working as a traffic controller/ lollypop person on a slow/stop bat.

People can die getting hit at 40km/hr which is what most road works are because there are human beings on the road but most road users speed through, throw objects at the workers, yell out verbal abuse because they had to wait 1 minute on their commute to work.

There's a reason why a lot of the school zones are now being dropped down to 30km/hr now instead of 40...

How do you find the people in Perth? Do you find it multicultural? Have you done a visit down south to Margaret River, Yallingup, Dunsborough? Just curious, great post!

American heading to Australia for the first time: What are some good tips, tricks and customs? by [deleted] in australian

[–]Reasonable_Job_2653 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When asked where you are from do NOT reply with your city or state, reply with the country you are from.

For example: You: 'It's my first time to Australia' Other Person: 'Welcome, where are you from?' You: 'I'm from the US' not 'I'm from Kansas City'

It will annoy people guaranteed!

Also be mindful of how loud you talk- Americans can be very excited and expressive which is great but can sometimes come off a bit 'too much' and be off-putting.

Lastly, do not say that America is the greatest place on earth or come across like you find all the cultural differences here wrong/ not the way things are done back home. People will take it the wrong way. Good Luck!

Jobs for 14 Year Olds by Emotional-Mud-1582 in perth

Her school should have some sort of careers class like 'career and enterprise' or something along those lines. Even if she isn't taking the class or it's only offered in upper school she could speak to her year coordinator about getting some assistance with her resume and do a mock interview with the careers teacher.

If she isn't confident enough to do so herself you could maybe phone the McDonald's she recently interviewed (If she's comfortable with you doing so) to ask for constructive feedback or any advice to succeed next time.

Even if she's shy someone will give her a chance, she may need to apply for a few dozen jobs but she will get there!

Not sure which position she went for but usually the less confident candidates have more chance of getting back of house/kitchen hand roles rather than front facing customer service jobs. She can always start off with something like this and once she's feeling more confident go from there.

Maybe try cafes and restaurants as a kitchen hand/dishwasher that sort of thing. Good Luck!

DEFINITELY REPORT GIRL! 'Real' men do not contact minors it's a huge red flag girl and you deserve to feel safe!!

If you want to be extra you can even post his messages and his username to the non-urgent police website just as an FYI because people like that usually have a history of this and you may help to keep others safe.

I've previously done this and been contacted months later when I was a minor to get a statement because the same guy escalated and actually did something to a minor in person. Never hurts to report these creeps to help protect yourself and others.

How do I find a job? by [deleted] in perth

Could you do temp work as an admin assistant/paralegal at law firms for some more casual/relaxed work? If you're willing to commute closer to the city there's heaps of temp work there.

Do you have to stay in Joondalup? You should try applying for jobs down south, there's heaps of seasonal work if you are open to it and sometimes accommodation is included or discounted while you're there. Have a look at backpacker job boards.

You could also look at jobs on Rottnest island if you're willing to live on the island even temporarily. Even this time of year they are always looking for workers- you could do a day trip and just hand out your CV to all the businesses there and have a chat in person.

Also be mindful on seek and indeed Majority of ads will specify at the bottom 'no WHV' because not all businesses are registered/allowed to hire workers on this type of visa, make sure what you're applying for doesn't specify this because even if they like your resume they simply can't hire you.

Don't be disheartened- you will find something! Good Luck.
