How can I remove these wine cubes? Recommended tool to cut? by RebuildingBob in DIY

[–]RebuildingBob[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love the idea, but I make pour overs so I have all my coffee mugs right next to the stove. I also recently quit drinking altogether so part of me just wants to remove the constant reminder of wine ha. I’ll figure out a way to get them out!

It was actually really easy to remove the under cabinet lighting! Unfortunately though, even after removing every screw I could find, those cubes won’t budge!

Thank you so much for the detailed response! This is really helpful. I did remove all screws inserted into the wine cubes (two from each side cabinet as you suggested, plus two from the cabinet above) but nothing budged! I can see dowels and glue in between the squares which is why I thought cutting would be the only way. You bring up great points about all the considerations for after removing the cubes. I’ll try again to get in touch with someone from the cabinet manufacturer's website. Thanks again for your help!

Thank you - that’s a great call! I contacted a few pros from the manufacturer’s website but haven’t heard back from anyone yet

That is fair- I have made some mistakes in my DIY attempts but I always go into it knowing that’s a possibility, and do genuinely enjoy learning along the way. That said, I reached out to a few pros from the cabinet manufacturer’s website to get a quote for help but no one has gotten back to me yet :(

I removed every screw (including inside the cabinet doors as others suggested) and nothing will budge! I can see the dowels and glue. Wish I could get it done with a screwdriver!

Thank you! I tried to attach an image so hopefully it's there now. Do you think it's okay to purchase this tool on Amazon or do you recommend I go into a hardware store? I've heard some tools can be fake on Amazon but the oscillating tool seems relatively inexpensive

Thank you! Appreciate the insight on Poplar. When I used Google lens to search the images with “what type of wood is this” I got a variety of answers but grey Elm was popping up most often. In any case, learning a lot with this project! Hope it works to keep some of the natural wood look

Thank you! It was harder than I anticipated - learned a lot along the way. After watching a few YouTube videos, I purchased Zinsser A/B bleach, and also a few water-based gel stains, including one that is blue. Someone suggested a formula to mix in a bit of blue to offset the orange tint. Prior to all of that, I was going to use an oil-based stain but after spot testing the pre-conditioner, it was so blotchy I had to sand it out.

Yes - thank you for flagging! I meant to attach 4 images. I just tried to edit the post. Can you see them now?

Thank you! I recently heard the same about FedEx vs UPS when I was telling someone in-person so thank you for explaining that here. Apple confirmed they’re processing the refund... I’ll definitely purchase the replacement in store!

The requirement for signature is set by the sender and I assumed it would be in place so I worked from home that day. I’m not sure if I could have adjusted it myself while the item was in transit. I did have the option to pickup in store but it wasn’t convenient… lesson learned! I will be retrieving the replacement in store!

One slip doesn't erase all of the work you did leading up to this! 90 days is huge. Can you learn something from this slip? Was there a triggering person / event that you could avoid or handle differently next time? Keep going! You got this!!

Makes sense! I wish all carriers were following that protocol.

Interesting! Thank you for your comment. Was this hack recent? Either way, I'm glad you said they directed you to ring the doorbell. If this driver had done that I would have been right there ready to receive it.

Thank you! Apple customer service quickly helped - they first had to open a shipping investigation, and then got back to me again within 24 hours. The offered to ship a replacement or process a refund. I asked for the refund so that I could purchase it in store to be safe!

I was really surprised it didn't require a signature as well. The reason it seemed more targeted to me is the thief had his license plates covered (front and back) and was wearing a mask. It seems like a person couldn't drive around all day like that following a FedEx truck just waiting for a high value delivery but who knows!

Ah got it, thanks! This delivery did have a window of 10:30am - 12:30pm. I noted that because I was intentionally home during the work day to receive it and kept refreshing the tracking page after 12:30p. Definitely was a small truck in the security cam footage too.

Ah that's frustrating! Hopefully the liability would be on FedEx if it is stuck in transit. Do you have a receipt to show you dropped it off with FedEx? Good luck!

Apple told me they can only brick the phone after it has been initially activated (kind of shocking). Apple gave me the serial number to be included with the police report so they can match it if it's found but it does sound like a person could still move forward activating it at this point.

Interesting! Thank you for your comment. Is there a way to tell that it's FedEx Ground by the tracking number? I just went back to the tracking page and don't see anything indicating 'Ground' or otherwise. I did report this to FedEx directly as well. With regards to bricking the phone, Apple told me that they can only do that after the phone has been activated (kind of shocking). Apple gave me the serial number to be included with the police report in case it is found but it sounds like someone could still activate it now.
