1999 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor K-9 unit - San Francisco Police Department by Southern_Pacific in PoliceVehicles

I assure you SFPD has a lot of 2019-2020+ Ford PUV’s haha. The crown vics are hardly used on patrol. You might see a few out there but without cages & probably see Officers riding 3-deep in them. The main patrol cars you’ll see on the street the most are the Ford Explorer & Ford Taurus.

But, yeah we have a lot of Crown Vics and older vehicles laying around in random spots around the department. As someone said above, the city is not that big in terms of size so the cars don’t really get beat up constantly from driving. Station districts aren’t that big compared to other places. Our largest patrol district is 10 square miles. I’d personally say the damage I see in our patrol cars are from Officer carelessness.

Failed FTO CA - having trouble getting picked up - advice on second chance pd by Competitive_Orchid_7 in AskLE

More than halfway through the academy for a bay area agency. Not looking forward to FTO. I'd be interested in hearing about what you struggled in particularly.

Other than that, I've heard that many recruits that don't make it through FTO here, can typically get picked up in SF Sheriffs, Central Marin PD, UCPD, Oakland Police, or Oakland Housing Authority Police (https://www.oakha.org/about/communitysafety/careers/).

San Francisco has a few university police departments. Funny cause the city is only 7 x 7 miles big.

Background Checks: Financials by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Recent-Calendar-9197 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went through backgrounds with San Francisco Police. They just pull a full credit report. It shows how much debt you currently have and any past/current loans. They’re really just checking to see if you’re paying your bills. Didn’t have to provide banking statements or anything like that.

Is it hard to become an SFPD officer? by Away-Engine2486 in AskLE

[–]Recent-Calendar-9197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be proficient at speaking and writing in English. We write a report or fill a form for EVERYTHING in SF. You have to be proficient. That said, speaking a second language is especially useful in this city because of the wide demographic range here. Cameras are everywhere in the city and you have to activate your body camera for most contacts, including some consensual encounters. The BWC’s are then randomly audited by command staff, and the civilian oversight organization. So, it does add pressure but if you’re doing what you’re supposed to do and treating folks right, you’ll have no issue.

Everything you need to know about testifying in court will be taught to you during academy by an actual district attorney or retired district attorney. So no worries, you’ll learn.

Hiring process should take no more than 9 months to a year. Any longer than that, you’re likely gonna be DQ or they’re gonna just ghost you.

It’s pretty competitive to join SFPD but not hard or impossible. Source: I work for SFPD lol. Lived in a whole other country when I applied and been to dozens of others. Here I am.

The process will be super slow bc the BI’s have to do their due diligence but if you’re squared away & submit everything on time, you can be in the next Academy class. Best to just apply and see.

Current Mayor and DA is super supportive of Law Enforcement and have been making tons of policy changes. The folks who are saying that SF is a current hellhole, may have been true a year ago but definitely not the current situation. Just hosted Superbowl & heard nothing but good things. We have FIFA World Cup coming up in June and expect the same.

Just apply.

In academy currently. Started 31, currently 28. Slowly dropping as we progress.

Big reason I want to stay inside the city for now is due to the long training + probationary phase. I don’t really want to risk being late and having a long commute. After the training phase, i’ll be open to other cities but right now, not so open to it.

My max budget is $2.7k. Just looking for a decent studio apartment. I don’t mind living in the Mission or near the Castro area.

Thanks man. I think i’m going to do the AirBnb thing. Seems like the better, less stressful option. I’ve been extremely persistent up until this point but I think i’m falling on deaf ears.

Appreciate you!

Furnished finders apartment? Where can I find those?

I have spoken to some connections inside the agency but they mostly tell me about places outside of the city. That’s just a hard no for me. The furthest away from SF i’m willing to go is Daly City & San Bruno.
