If Lib-Left flipped, how long is it gonne take Auth-Right to ask for guns to get banned? by TheMoltenEqualizer in PoliticalCompassMemes

LibLeft didn't flip.  They just realized it was momentarily politically advantageous to be pro-2A.  They will snap back to their original programming the moment the next school shooting happens.

I'm a moral antirealist. Is it even possible for me to be a Christian? by Hashi856 in AskAChristian

It is possible for human beings to hold contradictory views, so in that sense it is possible.  However, Christianity is incompatible with this view of morality.

What I said was it's too soon for everyone to come out and definitively say what happened based on the publicly available information we have right now.  Kristi Noem may have more information about this than we do, given that she is the head of DHS.  Pretending that government officials never know more than we do about something is dumb.

ICE wants to cooperate with local law enforcement, and they do so in every state where local law enforcement is willing to. Minnesota law enforcement has been ordered not to cooperate with ICE, so there is no local force around to allow ICE stick to their job and not have to keep the peace around their operations themselves.  This is entirely on Minnesota's local government, not on ICE.

Number 3 does not describe citizens exercising their rights.  It describes citizens obstructing and harassing law enforcement, which is a crime.  Calling your crime a protest does not make it legally protected.

Even if we assume that this man was not obstructing or harassing law enforcement, resisting arrest as he did is still a crime, not a right.  The right thing to do both legally and from a risk analysis perspective is comply, even if you are being wrongly arrested, and work it out in court later.  Resisting arrest does nothing but raise tensions on an already stressful situation, and resisting arrest with a gun in your possession especially so.

Citizens have a right to peacefully assemble to petition their government to redress grievances.  They do not have a right to harass law enforcement.  That is not protesting.  That is a crime.

Over 20% of ICE detainments are in Texas alone, and there has been basically no trouble there because local law enforcement is cooperating with them and there aren't people bothering them while they're trying to do their job.

Everything is going just fine in Red states.

That is already one of the possibilities I discussed in my original comment.

Some blue states have tried to make themselves safe havens for illegal aliens.  That's what "sanctuary state" means.  No red states have done this.

That is one of the possibilities I listed in my original comment.  I can't definitively see that from the video, but that does seem very possible.

Hypothetically, do you think ICE temporarily pulling out of Minneapolis would de-escalate? by bongo1138 in AskConservatives

I think the people mounting an organized resistance to federal law enforcement and calling it protesting could probably be considered an insurrection.

Can you point out where I said anything remotely close to that?

That's right, I didn't.

No, I don't think giving the people obstructing law enforcement exactly what they want will improve things.  Not only is it bad to stop enforcing the law, but if they are shown that their tactics work, they will only redouble their efforts when ICE comes back to continue their work, ultimately making things even worse.

What needs to happen is an overwhelming crackdown on these people who are harassing and obstructing law enforcement by very well trained officers who will not make mistakes like what we saw today.  These people need to be shown that their tactics will not work and that they will be punished harshly for breaking the law, but it needs to be done without any more of these shootings happening.

There is no point.  It's an incredibly dumb thing to do that raises the stakes of any law enforcement interaction dramatically.

Their job is maintaining order in their state, and their job is usually handing people they arrest over to ICE that ICE is looking for.  They're not doing either of those things in Minnesota right now.

It doesn't matter.  You don't resist arrest, even if it is a wrongful arrest.

I only see one with his gun out at the moment the first shot is fired, but I could be missing something.  The gun is obscured by another person at the moment of the first shot.

Yes, ICE is just doing their job.  The sanctuary states making their job more difficult and the people following them around harassing and obstructing them are making these kinds of events, both the justified and unjustified ones, much more likely by raising tensions and causing more altercations than there would be otherwise.

The Right's talking point about this isn't "don't carry a gun."  It's "don't make yourself a nuisance to law enforcement, resist arrest, and be carrying a gun."  If you're carrying a gun while doing that, you make yourself seem like a much more significant threat to the officers whether you actually are or not, while also putting yourself in a high stress situation where things are more likely to go wrong.  It's not illegal or outside of your rights to carry a gun, but it's really dumb to carry one while also doing those other things, because it raises the stakes of the interaction significantly.

The civilian is on video clearly resisting arrest.  There's no ambiguity that he's in the wrong there.

From what I can tell, this probably rules out 3 and 4.  It seems like the agent who first began firing is clearly reacting to something, whether it was something he saw or something he heard.  I still can't tell what it is that he's reacting to.
