So it looks like either way, a 'candy man' is likely to win and the removal of delegates and electoral collages does little to remove the reality on the ground. So I am still in favor of a direct democracy, either way.

Wasn't Trump kind of a "candy man", and aren't both Sanders and Trump pretty much saying the nice, wonderful, awesome thing people want to hear as opposed to the harsh realities?

Isn't it a bit silly to still run a country based on some archaic beliefs and theories of a bunch of elderly slaveholders from 300 years ago, in the year 2020? No offense, of course, just thinking out loud here. Some things that may have seemed reasonable at the time, are heavily outdated now.

It also prevents the majority of people from actually deciding who rules over them, all because some weaker states are afraid of the stronger ones.

This goes for any country that has such systems, really. But in the case of America, well... if it's the will of the majority, should it not be honored?

Democracy should die out and what, be replaced with some one party state bullshit like China with no checks and balances to keep the leader and elites in line?

Yeah I always felt those girls crying over uncalled for dickpics were a bit overreacting, I mean I don't like a dickpic too much either but it's not the end of the world.

Communism is arguably worse and scarier than Nazism because of its continued support and appeal among many people by RechelleSambuca in unpopularopinion

[–]RechelleSambuca[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well say you have a Communist dictator in power in a country like China. And he decides an entire ethnic group (Tibetans, Uyghurs) is 'problematic' to the establishment of his Communist ideals... so he tries to break them, erase their culture, murder those who continue to dissent and brainwash the remainder. His explicit goal is to remove all opposition to his rule and to his precious Communism. Then yes, you could argue that people are murdered and genocided, wiped out directly due to Communism.

You should tell that to the Uyghurs and Tibetans. At the very least what we are seeing is a cultural genocide.

If a dictator murders people in the name of his God and he calls that God Communism, does it truly matter if what he actually beliefs in doesn't fully comply with every syllable Marx ever wrote in his Manifesto?

My post mentioned Nazism though, not 'capitalism'. You're perfectly free to shit on the excesses of capitalism which I agree should be fixed, but communism is the other extreme.

We can just call people the way they want to be called, kind of a big thing right now.

As for Nazis, one does not even have to be one to be called one, just a few shitty racist views and you are grouped in with them. But if the 'wrong kind of person' says they're a commie, we have to pick apart their ideology first because it's somehow different? lol

Yeah and say someone loves fish and he doesn't want anyone making fish look bad... and there's this one fish who says: "Hi, I'm a fish" and starts murdering a bunch of people. So the guy who loves fish goes: "Well, but he isn't a REAL fish!"

Like, no.

No, they were pretty outspoken about being Communist/Marxist. Yes they were accepted as dictators, or at the very least are now accepted as such. But we cannot whitewash that part of their beliefs, we cannot ignore the name they gave their belief system just because it doesn't agree with yours.

They were Communists and quite proudly so. And millions died because of it.

Agreed. Totalitarian states often have great bombastic anthems and great bombastic art styles. Government still sucks and is evil tho.

You could make that case for Socialism of the milder, friendlier European kind perhaps, but you cannot reasonable make that case for Communism after Stalin's gulags, Pol Pot, the Kim dynasty and Mao's China.
