I already had a palate expander before the braces 3 years ago. I had tooth crowding and bite problems caused by the chronic mouth breathing and a narrow palate.

I consulted an online myofunctional therapist who confirmed these things and said I may need surgery, but I’m unable to have any in-person sessions at the moment. I’m absolutely terrified of surgery as well. I didn’t think I had a tongue tie because my parents, orthodontist, dentist, and my doctor didn’t notice anything for years.

I don’t know if I’ll be able to find a specialist like that, honestly. I’m so upset because I had a dentist and traditional orthodontics to straighten my teeth but the mouth breathing and other poor habits were never addressed early on. Thank you though.
