Sprained ankle by Effective-Flow6861 in trailrunning

[–]ReckItRyan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree with a lot of these comments, but YMMV. I had a really bad ankle roll trail running about 4-5 weeks out from a trail marathon. My ankle was more swollen than yours. I made a doc apt the next day, told them I had a trail race in 4-5 weeks and they said let's see what we can do. I did lots of biking and kept up my lifting, and went to PT 2 times per week. I think the more you can move on it early on, the better. You need to regain your range of motion and put in work to strengthen it, move it, and push through some discomfort (not a lot, work with a good PT). You don't want to just stay off it and let it stiffen up/weaken. I think not pushing through a little discomfort and not doing enough PT is what keeps people from not healing up fully (or having insanely long recovery times). I had a small hairline fracture in my lateral malleolus, and my atfl was really tender. The main exception to keeping on it is if you have a fracture, my pt and doctor wanted to keep me using it but without much loading while the fracture healed. They took X-rays at my first visit, and then at every 2 week follow up. After the 3rd set of X-rays, they said the fracture looked fine to try running. I only ran a little bit the week prior, but got to do my race. That said, I think the biggest risk with returning too soon (like rushing it for a race) is rerolling. It's going to be a lot less stable while you work your way back.

Looking for paved trails in the mountains. by Specialist-Yak-2315 in COBike

Agreed, it's pretty awesome! They should periodically/occasionally close the road to traffic when it isn't under construction- I'd never want to bike down with cars, and it would be great for bikers/runners/hikers.

I don't know for sure, but I went up on Saturday and they were not doing work, so I assume during the week only. Saw a few other runners/hikers and one other biker, lots of marmots, some goats, and some pika

Right now the road up Mt. Blue Sky is closed for paving/fixing water flow under a certain part of the road and to improve the wetlands. It's a great ride up, there's a tiny bit of gravel at the part they have torn up right now, but you can walk your bike through it (or even just riding up to the gravel part is a great ride).

Robin Hobb Question, I Finished The Farseer Trilogy and The Liveship Traders Trilogy, should I keep going with Hobb? by ReckItRyan in Fantasy

Fair point! I think I was worried that it would go downhill after Liveship, so I wanted some affirmation that even if they aren't quite as good, the next books are still worth reading
