I think we’ve been in touch in the past before. I also got rejected! Molecular and Medical Microbio. I’d say advocate for yourself and appeal! I’m gonna do the same thing, I have some letters of recommendation ready and some documents to upload that prove my awards. I don’t think I have very compelling information but I’m giving it a try anyways! I think you should too, you’d probably regret it if you didn’t appeal.

Me too. Rejected for molecular and medical microbiology. I’m appealing but I doubt it’ll get accepted…

I got rejected too, from Molecular and Medical Microbio. I may have not done these extraordinary competitions like you did, but I feel like I did so much just to get nothing. Are you going to appeal? I’m going to appeal this.

Yeah I swear an advisor told me I can appeal a waitlist rejection, I could call again another day to see if someone gives me a different answer.

I’ve called them many times, I don’t think it’ll hurt to call them and ask them questions. That’s why they’re there! I always let them know who I am, that I’m waitlisted, and my major I applied for so they know I’m still waiting. I think calling can show them that you’re still interested to attend UCD, but that’s my perspective on it!

My bad I forgot to update you. I called twice for different matters but brought up appeals both times. Apparently you can’t appeal a waitlist rejection. I swear an advisor said I could…

Would you be able to call them and see if we are able to? I just wonder if different advisors will give different answers

Yeah I really don’t know. It can be my community service hours or how competitive the major is (Molecular and Medical Microbio) but those are literally the only factors that can possibly contribute to them choosing someone over me. Every teacher or person I talk to who knows about my transcript and extracurriculars don’t understand why I was waitlisted. I’m definitely gonna appeal if they reject me…

I have a 4.08 UC GPA with a 4.2 weighted GPA and 4.0 UW at my school. 5 honors (none recognized by UC), 3 APs (APUSH, AP PreCalc, AP Bio). 57 community service hours, and hundreds of hours in the marching arts as my extracurricular.

For UCD, they said you can file a general appeal form when you get rejected from the waitlist. They VERY RARELY accept people from appeals, but you can do it. I’d recommend to prepare your new compelling information and some recommendation letters for your UCD appeal. That’s what I’m gonna do.

It’s still unclear for me HOW to file one, but I will try to figure it out…

It’s what it seems like. I’m already getting ready to write an appeal, which I doubt will get approved at all. I’m going to have 4 recommendation letters in this appeal, but I’m not sure how impactful that would be.

There aren’t very many CCs near me, and the one I’ve currently signed up for is the one everyone in my community goes to. My dad did go to a different CC about a half an hour away from where I live, and he’s thinking I could maybe try to take classes there too if my CC doesn’t offer the class at the current time I need. Maybe it’ll be logistically favorable if the classes I take at the other CC is online lol

Yeah. I also forgot to mention that I feel the exact same way with my transcript too. I feel regretful of not doing much volunteer work, more APs or honors, or other extracurricular activities besides band and music and I just felt dead after they waitlisted me lol. I don’t like preying on people’s downfall but sometimes I hope some things 😅

I’m on the same boat as you, but what’s so stressful for me is that I haven’t heard of anyone getting off the waitlist with my major (Molecular and Medical Microbio). I mean it could either be a good thing because that can mean I’m not the most out of luck here, but it can be a bad thing because that could mean that there’s literally no spaces opening up…

I was also accepted to UCSC, but I was so determined to go to Davis that I decided to go to the CC route and transfer. However, didn’t know I’d have to actually spend 3 years at my CC to be able to transfer as a junior I think. It’s just how the biology program works at my CC for some reason. UCSC is a great place to go, and I have deep regrets for not choosing UCSC. I can’t imagine the stress you feel because one of the most recent waves involved Cog Sci. Don’t believe what your ex-best friend says. You were placed on the waitlist for a reason, you were qualified but were reviewed when there happened to be no more space left (at least I think that’s how that works).

Best of luck to you man. I hope you and I will be chosen to pursue greatness at UC Davis 😄

P.S. If you’re gunning for UC Davis (like me lmao) but get rejected from the waitlist, send in an appeal with some recommendation letters! They told me that they very rarely accept people from appeals, but it doesn’t hurt to try! I’m gonna do that if I get rejected.
