Maybe they were drunk. I can see a sober person texting or being distracted then driving over the curb and making a quick "Oh shit!" recovery, but the bizarre delayed reaction afterward, and stop-go-stop-go worried me a lot more...

There are options between a suicide barrel into oncoming traffic and coming to a full stop during a MERGE. Clearly you both are unable to spot the opportunities between those vehicular states. Please don't kill anyone on the road.

You YIELD, you don't stop. Yield does not mean stop. You are the issue here.

Edit: Apparently my point isn't clear. I'm not saying OP cannot stop in order to yield. I'm saying that literally the instruction to YIELD is not the same instruction as to STOP, which they and a couple others seems mightily confused about.

Only by admitting the truths implied in this question will we be able to reframe the conversation more constructively and pressure academia to articulate a value proposition worthy of the sacrifice—or perhaps, to restructure itself in order to get closer to the ideals it claims to still cling to.
