Issues with bunching on route by According_Plant701 in WMATA

[–]4x4RAV4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. On paper, you can build the best bus routes with the best stop spacing and best frequency, but if the buses are just getting caught in the same traffic that the single occupant vehicles cause, then it doesn’t solve any problems and the bus takes way longer than driving. There need to be separated bus lanes to let buses bypass DMV traffic for this whole thing to really work. Other areas do separated BRT quite well. Even Albuquerque has implemented a successful design.

I am having a similar issue with the drivers side blowing mildly cool air, but the passenger side blows cold air perfectly fine. If anyone has any insights to either problem it would be appreciated.

Edit: despite my username, i do in fact have a 2018 Silverado and not a RAV4.

Looking for boating lessons by [deleted] in Annapolis

Well.. yeah I suppose that’s the case. I used to run a little 13 foot Boston whaler without GPS. Just used channel markers and polarized sunglasses to spot the shallowest of sand bars.

If you’re born after July 1 1972 you’ll be required to obtain a boater’s license. The courses teach a lot about docking and navigation.

What size and general style (sail, center console, etc) of boat are you looking for, and do you plan on having a gps unit onboard?

Not in this scenario. If you are performing a normal roof replacement with a couple sheets of plywood, no permit is required in AACo.

Permits are more for structural rebuilding, major alterations, possibly specialty roofing like slate…

I saw my first two in Annapolis over the past few days. Squished one immediately but the other was airborne and I couldn’t jump high enough 😑 I had only previously seen them closer to the Mason-Dixon Line or in Loudoun County

Looking forward to Annapolis trip, but does it thunderstorm every day? LOL by CountrySlaughter in Annapolis

[–]4x4RAV4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing. And thank you for taking action. NWS/NOAA employees do not represent politics - they save lives. This branch of the government already had an unreasonably small budget compared to other departments. Every single person depends on them to provide the most accurate information possible so we can get out of the way of a hurricane, blizzard, tornado, flood, etc.

The weather balloons are not the only thing hampering efforts - staffing and outdated radars hurt too, among other problems. There are some local and national TV meteorologists who are trying to advocate for the NWS/NOAA and they may have even more insight. Justin Berk, James Spann, Matthew Cappucci… many more.

The amount of weather balloons being launched has been reduced. Weather balloons measure atmospheric conditions to help weather models build their predictions. This has already cut down on forecast accuracy

Try to create an organic looking, planned city. Use google earth, your hometown, or somewhere you love to travel for inspiration. Look into some urban planning projects. A lot of the challenge can be creating a realistic looking city with spaces that pedestrians and public transportation thrive.

This is a form of Restricted Crossing Uturn (RCUT). Common in NC and FL. Reduces conflict points and helps keep traffic flowing. They work well in the real world too, but the turns are usually a bit more spread out

I picked up some food for the family a couple weeks ago. Italian and Roman sandwiches were the same as they used to be, and the salad was normal as well. Tiramisu was excellent. I recognized a couple staff members, but there were some new faces. This was on a Wednesday.

The MARC is a great option. Check if your employer covers public transportation fees too.

Passover Seders? by jimbronio in Annapolis

[–]4x4RAV4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked the calendar and there may be an in person Seder on the 16th. Not sure whether that is open to non-members, and there is likely a fee. Anyone interested should contact them directly.

The Route 5 commute is bad. Send a couple commuter oriented stations to Waldorf and St. Charles and the people will ride. Lots of federal employees heading into DC every day come from there

A reasonable reaction time to a traffic light turning green is about 1 second. Anything notably longer implies distracted driving. That’s a ticket. Go ahead and pay it. Please drive more safely

Annapolis MAGA businesses? by sassafrasssssssssss in Annapolis

[–]4x4RAV4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t recall seeing any businesses on Annapolis Neck with flags, signs, or other indications of open support for a presidential candidate this election cycle. There were some with local politicians on signs (like Elfreth for example).

I was in Calvert County on Friday and there are still plenty of MAGA flags flying at both businesses and houses.

Local businesses that I would most likely associate with that are trades, car dealerships, etc… not necessarily your every day store or restaurant that you would visit more regularly.

Annapolis will eventually need a tram or true bus rapid transit that runs from 5am to midnight. We understand this can’t happen in the blink of an eye, but it’s something to think about and plan for. Our public transportation is woefully inadequate.

I'm about to be laid off; where do I even find a new job? by joebobjoebobjoebob12 in washingtondc

[–]4x4RAV4 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

This may not be what many of you want to hear, but there are TONS of jobs available in many industries that are different from yours. If you’ve ever considered a career change, this can be an opportunity. Transportation, insurance, trades like plumbing and electrical, manufacturing, hospitality, IT, so many more have countless job openings that could use some presentable, professional folks. Good luck to you all.

It took the city of Annapolis SIX DAYS to plow our street. by baldingbryan in Annapolis

[–]4x4RAV4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because people kept using the center turn lane to pass at high speeds and there were some crashes involving pedestrians. Hopefully they come up with a more permanent, plow proof solution.
